Today saw visitors flock to the @mcec to check out what our exhibitors have to offer in the way of furniture, soft furnishings, lighting, textiles, artwork and more. This morning at the Seminar Series kicked off with Christopher Elliott chatting with Damian Corney of Grafico Group, on how to ensure elevated form follows practical function. Bree Leech, Dulux Colour Forecaster & Stylist delivered the 2024 Major Design Trends Forecast. Nia Pejsak delivered a macro forecast which showed us how global populations will change the way they live & the design of their homes. In the afternoon Briellyn Turton was in conversation with Jen Bishop, Founder of the Interiors Addict, about how Brie blends storytelling with a client’s personality to create magical homes. Heather Nette King showed the audience how to go behind (and beyond) the brief. The Green Design Hub was again a star attraction! Beautifully curated by Karie Soehardi of Circular Design Thinking, the Hub gives visitors a chance to touch and feel the latest in green design. Free Green Talks gave visitors an opportunity to learn about all things carbon with Brad Tucker from Circular Design Thinking; digital product passports with Karie; and Joshua Ellis from Cultivated showed us how and why Cultivated are (and we should) repair, reuse and maintain products! On Saturday there’ll be three *free* talks at the Green Design Hub including Cosentino speaking about their low silica, high performance sustainable surfaces, and AH Beard taking us on their sustainable journey. From 2pm – 3.45pm the ‘Future Ready Networking Event’ with Karie Soehardi, James Treble and Jamie Durie will be an afternoon of drinks, canapes and discussion about how we can continue to make beautiful objects but preserve the planet for future generations. What an incredible first day! The show floor was buzzing with thousands of visitors checking out products from 150+ exhibitors across furniture, soft furnishings, lighting, artwork, textiles and more. Beautifully curated by Karie Soehardi of Circular Design Thinking, The Green Design Hub showcased sustainable products and materials available to the industry right now from contributors such as Cultivated and Cosentino, and inspired visitors with free Green Talks about textile innovations and why plastic shouldn't be a dirty word. The Seminar Series kicked off to a great start with an inspiring seminar on creating atmospheres with Brahman Perera in conversation with Lucy Feagins, Editor of the Design Files. Megan Morton spoke with Akira Isogawa to discover how he weaves fragments of beauty together to create modern poetry. Adele Locke of MINT Lighting Design uncovered for us the secrets of beautiful architectural lighting. Adelaide Bragg & Charlotte Coote spoke with Robyn Holt on how they create elegant designs that reflect the spirit of Melbourne and have longevity at their heart. To top it all off, the winners of the 20th anniversary of VIVID, Australia's longest-running competition for new and emerging designers were announced.
