“The art of henna has been around me from a very young age and it’s safe to say that its grown with me (or vice versa!). Up until I started University, I simply did henna because it was “fun!” and another form of art that I could add to my list of hobbies. It wasn’t until University started to become a bit overwhelming that I realized not only was this art just “fun!”, it was my getaway and my way of unwinding and refreshing myself. I often get asked when I’m working if doing henna gives me a sense of calming (i.e if its therapeutic for me) and my answer is always the same: “Heck yeah it is!”. I tend to get lost in creating and putting together designs that in those few minutes or hours of designing, I’m possibly so at peace. Besides this, I feel like henna art has played an important role in my life in so many other ways, particularly in shaping my personality. From what I know of most businesses, be it in any field of work, most people tend to start at a later stage in their life, possibly in their 20’s or 30’s. At that point, a lot of how you are and how your personality is reflects in your business and not the other way around! For me, I think a lot of doing the business/art helped me really develop my personality at a young age. I was slightly an introvert when I was younger and having the opportunity to meet so many new people and so often, gave me the chance to come out of my shell and explore a whole new world. Even now, I often have to take a step back really appreciate how much doing henna and having this business has shaped me as a person and I wouldn’t be me without it, that’s for sure.” . . Thank you for all the love you all have showered these past couple of days! 💕I’m so overwhelmed by the number of messages I’ve received about Kaushal’s mehendi, many of you asking to see the full photo. Trust me when I say it, I have also been eagerly waiting to share this. Kaushal and I had been Instagram friends for a while and she had messaged me way before she got engaged about one day doing her bridal henna. I was overjoyed at that time and was certain I would travel countries to do henna for her if that ended up being the case. Quite honestly, it wasn’t because she was @kaushalbeauty, it was simply because since I’ve known her and since we’ve started talked, she has been nothing short of amazing. From the time she booked me as her Mehendi Artist to the day I did her henna, she was so personable and easy to talk to. We chatted on/off over Whatsapp about her design and incorporating elements/patterns from the embroidery of her wedding lehenga (which was so beautifully made by @ektasolanki). Slowly but surely and after numerous countdowns, the day had finally come! If there was one thing that stood out to me about Kaushal was just how genuinely happy she was. Planning a wedding is not easy on an any bride or groom and its very easy to get carried away in the planning and the little details that you forget to enjoy and take in the moments and the true essence of it all! Kaushal’s bridal henna took about 5 hours to complete and throughout the chaos, throughout the little setbacks, she was just happy! Happy to be marrying her soulmate, happy to be surrounded by her family and just happy to be there! Thank you for just being you, @kaushalbeauty! As promised, sharing the (slight messy, sorry) design process behind @nandinihirani’s bridal henna! Hope you enjoy! . A couple of things Nandini requested: - Bride/groom portraits (I usually make them match with the bride/groom’s outfits + jewellery on their wedding day!) - Grid (there was a grid Nandini loved and it matched a pattern on her bridal lehenga) - DJ symbol/logo (her husband, Anish is a DJ) I merged his logo into an image of a DJ playing I found online). Nandini had a tattoo on her right arm (by her wrist) and so to maintain the symmetry (this is a must for me! hehe), I incorporated the logo on the opposite arm in the same spot. - Elephants! (made a slight change to the original vision. added in 2 pairs on each hand instead of a single one) - An angel in the memory of her masi (aunt). You can’t see this in the final video because we put it at the end and I didn’t get to capture that unfortunately. . . You can see some minor changes that were made throughout (before/after our consults). One of the biggest change I made in the final design was the roses motifs behind the bride/groom portraits. A week or so before Nandini’s mehendi, I came across this STUNNING design by @kinjalpareshpatel and I was so inspired! When Nandini and I finalized the other design, something about it still felt a bit off! There was just a lot going on and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do justice to the details in the bride/groom portraits. So glad I went with my gut feeling and decided to keep the palm “simple” (Lol!) It allowed me to make the bride/groom portraits bigger and hence, add more details! Honestly, I couldn’t have been happier with the final result! ♥️ . . What do you think of the whole process and what’s your favourite part?
