“The Deadlift” how I have such a love hate relationship with it. I actually started powerlifting because I loved dead’s so much. The funny stories about I did this or that in high school. Well here’s mine, lol, The first time I deadlifted was at 15 and I killed 405 cold. Pulled 5 the year I graduated. Always loved it. I was decent at it over the the years but it was more than that. I saw it, and still do as the great equalizer. I feel like it tests your true strength on a deeper level. It’s the only lift that if you feel like it gets too heavy, you can just… let it go. You can quit at anytime. ANYONES that seen me pull anything close to a max knows that I’m a grinder… and stubborn AF. It may not always count but I’m not letting go. It’s the one true times in my life I’m actually patient. I get accused of having short arms so I’m decent at bench. Well… I have a long ass torso too so make sure I don’t just pull you. Aiiiiiiight?! This brings me back to “Just.Be.Strong”. I ask this question a lot “did you know you had bad leveraged while working out in a regular gym? Or did you actually just enjoy training and tried to get stronger. You walk into a powerlifting gym and all of the sudden you’re thrown every excuse in the book why you’re life in the gym is going to be so damn difficult cuz your parents hate you and gave you long femurs. Well you can’t pick your parents and a lot of you are lucky they didn’t have the option to pick you. Some would have been thrown off the cliffs like in Sparta. As my daughter and the great philosopher has said many times, “you get what you get and we don’t throw a fit”. Enjoy your time and life in the gym while you have it. Improve yourself and be happy with the improvements. Stop worrying about what you can’t do, you have enough problems with the stuff you can control. FINALLY made it down to the @the_sweaty_pig to hang out. Turned into a fun little deadlift day for @oldmanbarbell too. Nice little lifetime PR for him. Had a great day. Nice to walk into a room with 7 people in it and I don’t out pull 3 of them. Weird but humbling and good. Thank you @the_untamable_ass and @miss.jenn.d for being such great hosts. Need to visit more

Starts moving better when you don’t give it a choice. 295 with the SSB for sets of 🍀7️⃣. 10 second hold to start, using the @thebreathbelt instead of a belt, and doing about 90% of the rep to keep tension on. Just about everything to make it harder. Mountain Dew and cruising State

Handful of low pause doubles @ 405. Went over these a lot during the deadlift clinic we did at @chiromovementmjc last weekend. Lean back, brace it’ll just take slack out and get the bar to float a bit. Ditched the belt and just used the @thebreathbelt. Nice alternative. Use this in warm ups and other times when just sitting around being comfy isnt on the menu.

Nothing wrong going off plan here and there. But once that happens, you don’t just throw away the baby with the bath water. Shake it off and just continue. Having a great meal, snack or treat isn’t “bad”. But try to be proactive with your choices so you can still focus on the bigger goal. Not just a weigh in at the end of the week. You coach can try to hold you accountable but unless you hold yourself to a standard it won’t work.
