🌟Puppy Adventures🌟 Young Puppies on Adventures..... why not? Puppy adventures began for us as soon as Diggory was able to go out, yes at 10 weeks old we headed down to Cornwall, so he could experience his first play on the beach, it was brave going away with a 10 week old, I had many questions about, routine, toilet training, sleep but you know what we had a great time, we went at Diggory’s place, we stayed in a place right on the beach, so 5 mins here, 10 min there were more than enough then a quick carry or push in the stroller home and back for some well earnt zzzzz’s My top tips for taking a puppy away: •Car travel, make sure your puppy is ok before embarking on too much of a long journey, we were lucky that Diggory was a great traveler right from picking him up over 2 hrs away. •Keep all sleep time set up the same, so crate, pens, blankets and beds •Food, they may eat more or less, keep an eye on their eating and make sure they are getting enough to sustain all the new experiences. •Sleep, they may need more than normal due to the extra stimulation, we didn’t really leave the accommodation apart from driving out somewhere and would push him around for a short time to coffee shops in the day, the stroller really helped with people coming over and bothering as they couldn’t really see him all tucked up in his blankets. •Keep new experiences short and at a distance, we tried really hard to not overexpose Diggory, we knew we’d be back down in a couple of weeks so really went at his pace around new and novel situations. These are just a few things to think about. 🌟Chaos to Calm🌟 Super skills are handy, calmness is essential. Here's my tips: 🐾Have a place to introduce as the place to settle, like a mat, towel or bed. 🐾 Start in a quiet location, give a stuffed kong, chew or some tasty rewards 🐾 Build an association of when your on this (towel, mat) calm things happen. 🐾Make sure your dog is calm and happy to be on their mat before trying to move it to different rooms, the garden etc. 🐾 DON'T rush this process make sure your dog can cope with some mild distractions of you in the house before expecting anything out and about. Biggest mistake I see is rushing what we think our dogs should be able to cope with. 🌟Power of Calmness🌟 When introducing falling asleep on benches.... practice with caution 🤣 Calmness for dogs is like a dimmer switch, being able to help them settle is such an important gift to give. When giving guidance on these super powers it means your adventures get a little easier to take your dog with you to places that may not have been top of their canine wish list 😉 Do you like to take a dog to the pub or a coffee shop stop? When in the Lake District I plan walks that end or have a mid point coffee shop or pub for a nice reward for the days hiking, so being able to settle in these environments are important for us.
