Several doctors were then forcibly removed by security in Canary Wharf. ⁣ ⁣ The group, who have received public support from WHO Director General Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, included doctors whose work has already been impacted by the crisis. Around 100 patients were evacuated from Whipps Cross Hospital in East London when heavy rainfall affected both the main power supply and the backup power supply. ACT WITH CARE This action is the continuation of a campaign by people taking acts of careful and deliberate property damage at banks responsible for funding and accelerating the climate and ecological emergency. Wearing all black, the women used painted hammers with words such as LIFE, LOVE and CARE on them to break glass at the ‘World’s worst bank’. Before doing so they stuck stickers to the windows that read ‘In case of climate emergency, break glass’. Care was taken to make sure no one inside or nearby the building was put at risk of harm. And after they sat down peacefully to take accountability for their actions. Barclays, HSBC and JP Morgan have been targeted to highlight the banks’ suicidal business model which is pushing the planet to breaking point. JP Morgan is the world’s worst bank for funding fossil fuels, having invested $317bn into them since the Paris Climate Agreement was signed 5 years ago. The bank currently has no commitment to drop clients who don’t align with staying with 1.5 degrees, and no commitment to zero out financed emissions. PEACEFUL PROTEST MET WITH VIOLENCE⁣ ⁣ TW: Police Violence. Images and Videos captioned below.⁣ ⁣ 1. We are a nonviolent civil disobedience movement. Unlike the police, who are rarely held accountable for their actions, we take responsibility for ours, facing arrest and the courts when we break the law. This rebellion we have seen peaceful protests met with state violence. These are only a few examples.⁣ ⁣ 2–3 On 25 August police pulled apart protesters who were glued together. “Some women had formed a circle. People were shouting that we were glued together but the police barged through in seconds and ripped my hand from the woman I was glued to … The pain was acute. I received first aid from an XR first aider.” - Zoe Cohen⁣ ⁣ 4. On 29 August as protesters erected a bamboo structure police charged at protestors and violently pushed the structure and those attached to it over, putting everyone in the area in harm’s way as the structure fell.⁣ ⁣ 5. This is what a tip of one of the bamboo poles looks like. If it had hit someone’s head it could have seriously injured or killed them.⁣ ⁣ 6. The police smashed van windows on Monday 30 August, while peaceful protestors sat in the driver and passenger seat.⁣ ⁣ 7–8. On 31 August the police smashed windows again. The police drew batons and threw punches at peaceful protestors. Their violence failed to stop the road being blocked for hours, despite claiming their response was to “prevent any unreasonable disruption to the highway".⁣ ⁣ 9. Despite the repressive policing thousands of rebels have come out to support those risking arrest. We have been singing, dancing, shouting, and sitting in nonviolent protest together. The crisis is happening now, till we stop all new fossil fuels, it will only get worse. ⁣ ⁣ 240 million children are highly exposed to coastal flooding.⁣ ⁣ 330 million children are highly exposed to riverine flooding⁣ ⁣ 400 million children are highly exposed to vector-borne diseases⁣ ⁣ 820 million children are highly exposed to heatwaves⁣ ⁣ 920 million children are highly exposed to water scarcity⁣ ⁣ A billion children are exposed to exceedingly high levels of air pollution⁣ ⁣ This August UNICEF released a report that makes it absolutely clear the climate crisis is a child's rights crisis.
