{Apricus} full of light. Firstly I just want to say how grateful I am for being given the opportunity to create such a meaningful piece and share @paigesampson story. Paige, your story not only spoke to me as a nursing student and an artist but on a deeper level as a woman, a daughter, a sister, a niece, a granddaughter and an aunty. The same way I know many women all over the world can and will relate to the very real presence of breast and ovarian cancer. A little background on beautiful Paige 🤍 In 2019 Paige discovered she had the SDHB gene which is known for its involvement in several cancers. This lead to the discovery of a significant size tumour in her abdomen, after the tumour removal and many months in and out of doctors offices with complications around CT scans, heart and blood pressure testing she found out in April 2021 that she tests positive for the BRCA 1 gene (a tumour suppressor gene) a known marker for breast/ovarian cancer. In knowing this would categorise her as a high risk for developing these two cancers in her lifetime and further finding a benign mass in her right breast tissue, Paige (at only 27 years young) made a massive life changing decision for body, scheduling a prophylactic double mastectomy in January 2022. What at first looks like just another custom silhouette work of art, is actually so much more. It is a custom piece of Paige and an ode to her beautiful body that has carried and fought fiercely for her through all the obstacles thrown in her way. When Paige reached out to me (as a stranger) with such openness and honesty about her medical history and the hardships she has battled with such strength and resilience, I was completely in awe with the way she held herself. Paige. Your self-worth, self-love and radiant body positivity (and positivity in general) is truely inspiring to me as a young woman who is still growing and finding her own way through self acceptance and body positivity in today’s present beauty standards. I just knew I had to create something for you that represented everything you are and always will be. And with that i call this piece {Apricus} full of light. Swipe for some wholesome content
