This role keeps Sisters’ philosophies of nonviolence, gentle personalism, and community organizing at the forefront of the work we do in the Cafe. This position provides hands-on leadership and management to the Cafe Team, and works collaboratively with the team to create a cafe space that is consistently responsive to community needs. The Cafe Program Manager spends 20 hours per week working directly in the cafe, and 20 hours per week providing mentorship to cafe staff and managing weekly back-of-house operations. Afro village is hosting an event tonight for sneaker week! “An Afrovillage Joint Block Party…this will be a community event centered around food, entrepreneurship and bringing Portland together. Acknowledging the year and half of protests and the pandemic’s impact on the community, Laquita Landford [founder of Afro Village] hopes people will come hungry for great food and for having conversations that bring people together. Working with Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), the event will be held on NW Davis, between NW 10thand 11th. Landford is a longtime supporter of Black-owned Everybody Eats PDX, which recently opened a brick-and-mortar location in the Pearl District. “These guys are all about bringing people together over food and learning about each other’s lived experiences,” Landford said. She said the owners, Portland natives Johnny Huff, Jr. and Marcell Gross, are dedicated to helping Black youth and entrepreneurs in Portland get the experience and connections they need to thrive…The final list of vendors is still being confirmed, but Landford expects a variety of Black-owned businesses selling unique clothing, jewelry and candles. She also expects farmers offering fresh produce, herbs and flowers. In addition to food from Everybody Eats PDX, other favorites will be there including Hana’s PDX, serving their New Orleans Snowballs. Music will be provided by House of Sound.
