My heart was beating through my chest when I delivered these lines. There are 2 moments that I experienced nervousness on this show- my very first and my very last. The end of an era! Hosting a live TV show for 12 years takes commitment. It also means that your family also commits to the project and product throughout the years. My baba was born 3 months before I returned for my second season (2012, 2023). She is now 11 My mama was with me from my first show until my last. (2011, 2023) Family and support are super critical when giving of yourself to anything. A lot can happen in 12 years and it isn’t lost on me that has been so much loss in the world. Happy International Sign Language Day!🥰 🤟🏾 May we actively and consciously work towards creating a world that is more inclusive . 🤟🏾 Sometimes it could be as simple as learning how to communicate with a community. 🤟🏾 Sometimes it is as simple as choosing not to use harmful language to describe the deaf community. We do not use or tolerate terms like dumb, dummy or mute. 🤟🏾 Members of the deaf community are not stupid and they most certainly are not idiots , yet many face discrimination and bullying simply because they communicate differently. 🤟🏾 Let’s rethink how we perceive them. Let’s reimagine what society would look like IF we treated the deaf community and any other community with persons with disabilities as first class citizens! 🤟🏾 Shout out to companies like @toyotajamaicaltd who hire deaf and train staff in sign language. Naima and I tend to shop at supermarkets like Loshusan and Select Grocers that hire deaf packers.
