#Repost @stefandidak ・・・ The city council in Beverly Hills just, moments ago, unanimously voted to ban the sale of all tobacco products in the city. Some exemptions are present in the language but are all based on a phase-out period where their intention is that in several stages all sales will cease by around 2022. For example, hotels will still be allowed to sell products (only to their guests via a room service order) but will have to stop doing that by 1/1/2022. A hardship exception can be applied for if a business wants a little more time but will have to provide data, financials, and a full plan on when exactly they will cease all sales. In the meantime the Mayor got pretty upset and tried to have people removed from the audience for applauding some amazing testimony by a military veteran who, as he said himself, in the military "engaged in activities detrimental to his health" and tied the act of prohibition in with the sharp contrast of his many years of fighting for liberty and freedom. Public Health extremists cited youth use of e-cigs in the city and the "epidemic" which is inconsistent considering that Beverly Hills already banned the sale of flavored tobacco products so I guess it's not working? They don't appear to have any data either way on that but it surely shows that prohibitionists will not stop after the removal of flavors. I won't comment on any legal challenges to this policy once it passes in full after the coming full first and second reading but I think everyone should hope that legal challenge succeeds.
