I knew when I was downsized from my job in 2019 that I would lose my health insurance.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ It was absolutely terrifying. There are resources online that you can use to check your eligibility. ___________________________ Free Clinics/Community Mental Health Centers •Free clinics provide services for free or a small fee to those who may not be eligible for Medicaid or Medicare, but also can’t afford sufficient health insurance. •Community mental health centers also offer low-cost (sometimes free care based on a sliding scale) to the community. They provide similar services to those offered by private practices… sometimes more comprehensive services due to their government affiliation/funding. __________________________ Prescription financial assistance •While prescription medication costs continue to escalate, prescription resources for those in financial need are also becoming more available. •Generic formulations of drugs are almost the exact same as the brands, but offered at very affordable prices. •Some pharmaceutical companies offer prescription assistance programs based on financial need; sometimes allowing patients to get brand-name medications for #FREE. I ran into an issue with insurance refusing to cover a prescription for my son. When they told me how much it would cost without insurance, I burst into tears. It’s really helpful for both kids and adults.
