Raptors, although among the less famous species of the Masai Mara, are undoubtedly some of the most important in the delicate ecological balance. They are essentially the recycling team of this great ecosystem, cleaning the carcasses of big cat kills and helping prevent the spread of disease. However, 52% of raptor species (which includes eagles, kites, hawks, harriers, vultures, owls and falcons) are in decline and 18% are threatened with extinction due to loss of habitat. That's why Sala’s Camp has partnered with the @mararaptorproject to plant raptor-friendly trees across the Mara ecosystem and why we want to shine a light on the important work these less cuddly-looking animals do. 📽️ @poji_theuri #DiscoverTheSafariCollection #Vulture #KenyaSafari #SalasCamp #MasaiMara #Raptors #OnSafari

It's not just @TheGiraffeManor where The Safari Collection guests can encounter our long-necked friends. Kenya is the only country that is home to three different subspecies of giraffe. In addition to Rothschild’s giraffes at the Manor, guests can spot Masai giraffes at Sala’s Camp in the Masai Mara and Reticulated giraffes at Solio Lodge in Laikipia and Sasaab in Samburu. All these subspecies of giraffe are being protected thanks to the conservation efforts of @kenyawildlifeservice and @giraffe_conservation. WORLD GIRAFFE DAY 🦒 The longest day of the year is dedicated to the world's tallest animal, and it's a perfect chance for us to reflect on some of the amazing giraffe conservation work that's happened in Kenya over the past few months! There were new arrivals at @TheGiraffeManor, and a heroic collaboration between the Footprint foundation, @kenyawildlifeservice and @savegiraffesnow to move a group of Masai giraffes to a safe new home. Almost all giraffe subspecies are threatened, endangered or critically endangered. But YOU can make a difference. Sponsor a giraffe via the link in bio to support the work of @giraffe_conservation, or join our #BehindTheSelfie campaign to raise awareness on your own social channels and help save this species. TWIGA TRANSLOCATION Earlier this year @thegiraffemanor partnered with @kenyawildlifeservice and @savegiraffesnow to move a group of 21 Masai giraffes to a new home in Lake Naivasha. Over an extended period of time community farmland has slowly eroded their habitat, this left the giraffes with limited access to food and water, and crucially, extremely vulnerable to poachers. The KWS team translocated 12 twigas a short distance by truck to the safety of Loldia Farm, before a further 9 were walked into protected neighbouring properties. From start to finish the incredible teamwork and effort of all parties involved enabled the success of this epic rescue. The Footprint foundation will continue to help and protect these iconic and threatened animals. Wishing our followers around the globe a very happy Father's Day 🤩 What better day to celebrate the legendary Edd, Giraffe Manor patriarch and one of the tallest twigas you could ever hope to meet! At an impressive 18ft (5.4m) tall, Edd's lofty stature is equalled only by his gentleness to guests and fellow twigas alike. Edd is dad to six giraffes currently residing at the Manor, and at 12 years old shows no signs of slowing down! As you can imagine, it's hungry work, which is why Edd is often first to greet guests at the Manor windows for an early breakfast of giraffe treats. #DiscoverTheSafariCollection #FathersDay #Nairobi #WelcomeToKenya #TheRetreatGiraffeManor #GiraffeManor #BehindTheSelfie
