President Kagame met with Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane of the Kingdom of Lesotho, who is in Rwanda to attend #YouthConnekt2024. They discussed ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and the Kingdom of Lesotho.

“We grew up experiencing things that taught us many lessons, things that you don’t learn in school but you learn in life. I asked my father when I was twelve, who I lost when I was fifteen, “What did we do? Why are we here?” We were in a refugee camp, being fed with weekly rations. My father told a long story, but it was clear that it was politics, the leaders. It was a convergence of colonial times and the times of independence. Everything was just what it should not have been. Those are the lessons we learned. But it is disheartening that what I am talking about then, so many years ago in the sixties, some of that is still happening even now. You have people, especially young people, who are still suffering because of politics and all kinds of bad governance. What I experienced when I was four years old, why should it be happening now anywhere? Why should it happen anywhere on our continent?” President Kagame | #YouthConnekt2024 #Jobs4Youth

President Kagame congratulates Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa of Samia on her role as new Chair in Office of the Commonwealth.

President Kagame joined King Charles III, Prime Minister of Samoa Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa and other Heads of Government for CHOGM2024.

“It has been a great honour for Rwanda to serve as Chair-in-Office for the past two years. I congratulate Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa, and wish you all success as Chair. Rwanda stands ready to support you. Samoa is the first Pacific island state to host CHOGM. This comes at a turning point. Temperatures are rising, and for small island developing States in the Pacific and the Caribbean, this is literally a matter of survival. Africa and Asia also share this burden. Two-thirds of the world’s small states are members of the Commonwealth. We cannot ignore the voices of those who are bearing the brunt of this crisis, and they should not have to beg for our support.” President Kagame | #CHOGM2024
