‘We are sisters and our family belongs to Tamil Nadu but we call Dubai home now as we were born and brought up here. We’ve always loved dancing since we were 6 and 10 and grew up grooving together, and it was our mother who really nudged us in the right direction. She noticed our enthusiasm for dance and enrolled us in formal classes to learn Bharatanatyam. In 2013, we had our Arangetram debut Bharatanatyam recital which set the stage for our journey in the field, and there has been no looking back ever since. Our love for Indian classical dance grew since then, giving us opportunities to perform on several platforms across Dubai and India, and online through our social media pages. We are not just working as choreographers but are bringing our personal twist to dance classical forms, one performance at a time. Incorporating ideas from the people and places around us and combining them with our creativity gives us the best of both worlds. It’s challenging to consistently create unique choreographies and distinct styles amidst innumerable artists and content on social media. However, watching fresh content every day also tells us creativity is always alive and it inspires us. Practising as regularly as possible, revisiting the basics of Bharatanatyam pushes us to strive for perfection in our movements. We also try to step out of our comfort zone, be it in terms of the difficulty of our choreography or a different genre of music. Our parents have been extremely encouraging in pushing us to become better dancers and supporting us through everything. Our gurus have taught us so much, not only about dance and striving for perfection but also about respecting the art form. It’s a matter of pride to share our beautiful culture with the world and investing in pursuing the art form contributes to it. The ability to connect with people globally who share a similar passion empowers us to represent Indian culture with pride. Dance truly creates a community that has no barriers irrespective of where we come from and we love that about it. Social media has given us a platform to reach audiences we never thought was possible and we are truly grateful.‘ #shethepeople

“Growing up, I neglected my body’s silent cries for help. I have always been ambitious and I seldom used to get fevers, stomach pains and a few issues but I never let things bother me. I was raised by fierce parents and was my Naani and Naanu’s favorite child. I always put in a lot of effort for my grades as excellent grades made me happy. After 5 years of misdiagnosis, in 2018, when I was in the final year of my graduation, I fell severely ill and had to be rushed to the hospital. The doctors informed Naani and Naanu that I was suffering from Lupus. My family was really worried. We had never heard of it. For me, I felt like the end of the world. Honestly, I had lost all hope when Naani Maa came and gave me a tight hug. ‘How will I go for my dream vacation?’, ‘Will I die tomorrow?’, ‘Will I never have a normal life?’ all these thoughts were haunting me and made me feel helpless… My treatment started immediately. After 2 days, I was disgusted to see a swollen face.I was scared to step out of my hostel room. With my finals in the next 10 days, I was losing hope. When my teachers came to visit me, they were shocked to see my condition so they suggested that I only write the exams to pass. Well, I was not okay with that… I was not being hard on myself but I did not want to quit without a hard fight. So, I took heavy pain killers and managed to write my exams with shivering hands. I bagged a crazy score! It felt like my silver lining & in that moment I decided that 1 disease cannot command the rest of my story. I had dreams to achieve and I wasn’t ready to give them up. I said to myself, ‘Shambhavi, have you worked hard all these years, just to give up?’ The answer was, ‘No way!’. With all my might, I pushed away my fears and was ready to give myself a fair chance with the last gram of strength in my body. I meditated, exercised and was on a diet. I defeated my disease and set myself on a path to achieve my dreams. In 2019, I had to go through a terrible surgery where my leg was cut open. But, the struggles have only made me stronger and guess what I completed my first scuba dive 2 years later. I do have Lupus but just in my body, not in my head!” #shethepeople

Being a huge fan of Lust Stories (2018), I was eagerly waiting for the four-segment anthology to release. And bam, it landed on Netflix on Thursday afternoon. I started off with R Balki’s Made for Each Other, the first segment starring Neena Gupta, Mrunal Thakur, and Angad Bedi. While I loved Neena Gupta as an unconventional Daadi, I found myself having conflicting thoughts about the message of the movie. To give a little introduction, Made For Each Other is about a recently engaged couple, Veda (Mrunal Thakur) and Arjun (Angad Bedi). Veda’s Daadi (Neena Gupta) staunchly believes that strong sexual compatibility can help a couple survive all the odds of a married life. So she encourages the young couple to go on a "test drive" before marriage to check if they are "compatible in the bedroom." Daadi Ma insists that only when "Mount Fuji" erupts does it count as great sex, referring to both the man and the woman experiencing orgasms. Sex is an important part of marriage, and it’s vital that a couple share good sexual compatibility. However, is great sex alone enough to make a marriage work against all odds? "If the base is strong, you’ll withstand all kinds of quakes," says Daadi Ma, and she refers to sex as the base. Again, sex is important, but sex cannot and should not be the base! While it’s vital for a couple to be sexually intimate and keep the passion alive in the bedroom, how can marriage depend on that alone? How can that be the base that holds the marriage together?
