For years you either had to build your campervan yourself or opt for a factory-fitted one. Now there are dozens of pro converters building stunning, unique, handcrafted campervans. Since the beginning of the Quirky Campers journey, people have been asking us to help them create their own beautifully handcrafted campervan conversions. What exactly do we do? We have a sales platform for selling and buying campervans. Over the years we've had hundreds of people wanting to sell us their campervan, and even more asking us where to buy their very own quirky campervan. That's what happens when you have so many stunning campervans for hire 😍 It got us thinking we need a way of connecting these people together! And thus our sales platform was born. Buyers can peruse our sales platform for campervans to buy, and sellers can list their campervans for as little as £29.95. At any given time we have 50-100 campervans up for sale but we currently have THOUSANDS more buyers than sellers so if you know anyone selling their campervan, send them our way! What exactly do we do? We hire out campervans! It's easy for us to forget that not everyone is familiar with what our business does - so many of you might have just come across us on Instagram - so we're going to spend the next few days talking about what we do and how we can help you! The service that started it all is renting out campervans. Our founders Lindsay and David set up Quirky Campers in 2010 as a way to rent their campervan Bella while they volunteered in Kenya. Now we act as an agency for a community of campervan owners who want to share their pride and joy with all of you (we have over 120 campervans across the UK!). Customers come to us looking for a campervan, and then hire one from one of our owners. We love that we've been able to introduce so many people to the adventure of a campervan holiday while helping our owners earn money. We still can't believe we're 10 years old! A lot has happened over the years but these are 10 of our best moments... 1. Camp Quirky 2019 - drinking cocktails with the team on Saturday evening. Looking at at so many people having fun, making friends and learning new skills and feeling pure joy 2. Christmas parties with our owners, they are a fun bunch! 3. Getting our first feature in a national newspaper - a 2-page spread in the Observer magazine! An absolute pinch yourself moment 4. The first virtual workshop during lockdown - feeling so supported by our community and that we could get each other through anything 5. Launching in New Zealand! Something we dreamed of but I didn't know if it would ever be possible 6. Winning our Bristol Life Award 7. When we reached 50 vans, and it felt like this was really 'a thing' 8. When one of our listed campers, Dave, was stolen and we were able to track him down through the power of social media! 9. Hitting 100k followers on Instagram - while these numbers are not the only measure of success it does feel like a real vote of confidence for what we're doing 10. How do we pick which vans will become part of our fleet of Quirky Campers? For some vans, it's a no-brainer! Vans like the ones in the pictures are obviously stunning so get approved almost straight away. They're well-built, brilliantly Quirky, and are perfect for an adventure! Then there are others that get rejected straight away - it could be that the workmanship is poor or they don't have the features a campervan needs to have or it could just be not our style. Then there are other vans... the ones that aren't so clear-cut. For these we have a voting system. Each of our 3 directors rates the van out of 5, and a van has to get a total of 8 overall to get approved. Quirky Campers hasn't always been a "business". It was a hobby for the first 5 years around other jobs, international travel and building our house! We decided to start taking it 'seriously' when we found out we were having twins - we wanted to do something we loved that would allow us to be around our kids more. It all started to feel real when we took on Sophie, our first team member, to help with the marketing - I interviewed her in our living room while tandem breastfeeding! We then took on Caroline who is still with us now. Two Directors eventually became three! Jamie was the fifth owner to join Quirky Campers with Maya, a beautiful conversion he had done with the help of his brother (owner of Luna). He was also our neighbour, living on the next street. He always had an interest in how the business ran and particularly in the numbers - incidentally he is a human calculator. His day job at that time was as a circus performer - running workshops as well as doing shows - but he was looking for a new challenge, and a job that could fit more easily around his young kids. We were ready to take the business to the next level and were looking for an injection of both cash and energy. When Jamie offered both, we thought carefully about it, then jumped at the chance! And so our neighbour became the third Director of Quirky Campers. Our kids adore each other which has helped when we try and get some work done through the long summer holidays. And Jamie's skype-wit (I've decided that is a thing) helps to keep us all getting bogged down when the inevitable challenges arise. So let's go back to the beginning... David and Lindsay set it up in 2010 as a means to rent their own gorgeous campervan, Bella, while they volunteered in Kenya for six months. Running the rentals from Africa, they were amazed at how much interest the lovely Bella got. On their return they slowly started to build the business alongside self-building their own family home in Bristol. We're in shock. Our dear friends' beautiful van (and Quirky Camper) 'Fran', has been stolen from outside their house last night. She was a labour of love and has provided much-needed respite for their family. A camper like this is irreplaceable... I know it seems like a long shot, but a couple of years ago another Quirky Camper was stolen, the post was shared tens of thousands of times and 'Dave' was spotted by someone who had seen the post and retrieved by police. Fran is a white Ford Transit. She has bonded windows on either side at the front, a skylight and a large solar panel on the roof. She had Quirky Campers decals on the back door though those may have been removed. She has a distinctive birch-ply interior with bright yellow table. Reg CF60 FLV (though this may have been switched already) She was stolen from Cardiff but could be anywhere in the UK or possibly even France by now. PLEASE share this post in your stories so we can get eyes looking out for her across the country. I know this amazing community can do this! Thank you so much in advance.
