So when I was 19 years old, I had this white flowy puff sleeved dress with blue flowers that I wore EVERYWHERE - from dinner at the local Chili’s to the Palace of Versailles. 🥰 I treasured it! This extraordinary automobile known as the 1993 US Electricar GTP Sports Coupe (chassis 43CSA1126LRC1C021). The US Electricar GTP Sports Coupe was constructed on the base of a 1990 Mosler Consulier GTP Targa, and was developed by U.S. Electricar, which was established as Solar Electric Engineering Inc. in the year 1976, and was recognized at the time as one of the most ambitious conversion firms in the small alternative-fuel car industry, and also one of the first modern companies that was able to convert gasoline powered cars and trucks to run on electric batteries. It’s important to note that the standard Consulier GTP is an American sports car that was produced by a company known as Consulier Insustries, which was founded by American economist, politician, and entrepreneur, Warren Mosler in 1985. The GTP features a composite monocoque made of aircraft-grade fiberglass & a total weight of just 2,200lbs. The GTP proved itself after a successful race finish during the 1991 auto race at Lime Rock Park. Chassis 021 shown here is quite different from any other variant of the GTP, and that’s because it’s 1 of just 2 cars that are believed to have been converted to have state-of-the-art electric drivetrain technology. This example is believed to be the 22nd GTP example ever constructed, and Electricar completely revamped the model. Importantly, the Electricar GTP was only available exclusively through the American chain of luxury department stores, Neiman Marcus (@neimanmarcus), and was advertised in 1993 Neiman Marcus Christmas Book, featuring Canadian-American dramatic and comedic actor, Leslie Nielsen. This example was also used by Florida Power & Light to promote electric vehicles from 1994-2000.
