For the artist's second solo exhibition with Neon Parc, Lai presents a suite of intricate drawings, felt paintings, sculptural forms, assemblages and found objects, along with a series of collaborative photographic works with artist Tim Hardy. Email [email protected] or DM us for a preview catalogue 💋 — Spencer Lai (b. 1991 Sarawak, Malaysia) is a Naarm/Melbourne based artist interested in the impact of consumerism, cultural objects, and ephemera on identity. Their work engages with a range of artistic mediums, including sculptural compositions, installation and expanded paintings to explore connections between design, education, desire, and the self. Lai’s artistic practice draws inspiration from encounters in urban environments, such as walking, shopping and salvaging. Simplistic materials, such as synthetic felt, balsa wood and fabric are juxtaposed with ornate antiquities and Asian artefacts, challenging preconceptions of value, taste, and artistic production. Included in the exhibition is 𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘺 (2023), a photographic series made in collaboration with Tim Hardy, which features photographed subjects from the artists’ personal and professional lives: fellow artists, former teachers and classmates, friends and partners. By interweaving personal and historical subject matter, this series provides a complex and non-linear narrative of youth, power dynamics, freedom, creativity, sexuality and spirituality. Final week to see Kieren Seymour’s work included in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 4: 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘳𝘵 at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Sydney until 9th July 2023! ⏰ Kieren Seymour's paintings at the MCA, extend the artists' interest in using drawing and painting to explore idiosyncratic modes of representing the body, objects and space. "Kieren Seymour calls his figurative paintings and drawings ‘thoughts.’ This thought is intuitive and mythical, snatched from a waking dream populated by misshapen giants, homunculi, and monstrous animals, accompanied by mundane objects such as brooms, hammers, and smartphones that, in this fantastical context, receive a curious archetypal charge. Keeping his distance from what he calls the ‘noise fields’ of contemporary art discourse, Seymour prefers to immerse himself in this idiosyncratic image-world, where an enormous gaping maw is filled with hammers, or where a multi-headed canine-hominid, enveloped in a membrane of green light, sniffs with its many noses, flanked by two stunted ghouls." — Francis Plagne, 2023 Email [email protected] or DM us for a catalogue of available works. — 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 4: 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘳𝘵 Museum of Contemporary Art Australia 31 March–9 July 2023 Curated by Jane Devery Featured works (L–R): Kieren Seymour 𝘛𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘢𝘯 𝘉𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘪𝘯, 2021 Oil on canvas 183 x159 cm Kieren Seymour 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, 2022 Oil on canvas 165 x 143 cm Kieren Seymour 𝘚𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘔𝘺 𝘗𝘦𝘵𝘴, 2021 Oil on canvas 165 x 143 cm @k.p4c @mca_australia #kierenseymour #neonparc #painting #contemporaryart #thenational #thenational4 #AGNSW

Nabilah Nordin, 𝘚𝘮𝘰𝘬𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘯 (2023), featured as part of 𝘧𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 at Bundanon Art Museum, NSW, until 18th June, 2023 🔥 The starting point for 𝘧𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 is the expansive selection of multi-hued drawings and curvilinear ceramics by Merric Boyd, collected by his son, Arthur Boyd, which form a cornerstone of the Bundanon Collection. Bringing this lyrical work into conversation with the very different practices of three living Australian artists, fantastic forms explores the joy of artmaking and its connection to everyday life. The exhibition features over 200 works from the Bundanon Collection in dialogue with new large-scale sculptures by Nabilah Nordin, a series of ceramic figures by Stephen Benwell and stop-motion videos by emerging Bundjalung artist Rubyrose Bancroft. Beginning with Merric Boyd’s idiosyncratic approach to artmaking, 𝘧𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 expands from well-known ceramic work into his energetic and playful drawing practice, all of which was underpinned by the spiritual philosophy of love and connection that ran through his life and work. Today is the final day to see see 𝘈𝘪𝘳 𝘓𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘦, a duo exhibition by Rob McLeish (Naarm/Melbourne) and Bill Saylor (New York) at Neon Parc Brunswick. The gallery is open 12–5pm today ⏰ Email [email protected] or DM us for a catalogue of available works 💋 — For their first joint exhibition—and the premier of Saylor’s work in Australia—the duo present two distinct bodies of work linked by a shared approach to art making itself and a deep engagement with material processes. Employing a monochromatic colour palette that ranges from saturated blood-reds to deep inky purples, McLeish creates a drug-like haze in the works that imbues a murky, psychological effect through a palpable tension between abstraction and representation.Central to the series is the image of a reoccurring gestural abstraction painted by a Floridian monkey, overlaid with an array of manipulated imagery including swimming pools, bleeding orchids, iconic Caravaggio paintings and reiterations of the artist's own meticulous drawings and sculptures. Dense with recurring personal iconography, Saylor’s works demonstrate a profound engagement with environmental issues such as meteorology, natural history, and marine biology. Often populated by bizarre monsters, deformed sea creatures, and sinister skeletal figures that seem conjured from some ‘interim space’, his work evokes the shifting spectre of imminent ecological disaster. Saylor often begins his large canvases flat and works outside against the elements at a summer cottage on the Delaware River in Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania. This site of natural beauty imbues the paintings with a personal history and makes the paintings ‘strange attractors’. — Bill Saylor 𝘜𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘥, 2023 Oil, flashe, spray paint and pastel on canvas 214 x 168 cm Rob McLeish 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴 #13, 2023 Oil on aluminium, Vic Ash frame 143 x 103 cm Bill Saylor 𝘜𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘥, 2018 Oil, flashe and charcoal on canvas 183 x 135 cm Rob McLeish 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴 #2, 2023 Oil on aluminium, Vic Ash frame 143 x 103 cm #robmcleish #billsaylor #airlikewine #neonparc #contemporaryart #painting
