Fun fact, not many people know, but this past year I had the incredible opportunity to serve as a youth pastor. It's hard to put into words where to begin, but I'll keep it short and genuine. Growing up, Christian culture wasn't a part of my life, and I never envisioned myself becoming a pastor. In fact, it wasn't until 2017 that I even discovered what a pastor was.
The day I was offered this role, I woke up in my throw up after partying a bit too hard the night before. I didn't feel qualified enough and hesitated to accept the job.
Little did I know, God saw something beyond anything I could have imagined. This is just a glimpse of my story. But here's what I want to leave you with: I never actively pursued or envisioned myself in this role. I never believed I had the qualifications or capabilities to guide others in their spiritual journey. However, God had different plans.
Believe me, I tried to run away from it. But eventually, I surrendered and chose obedience. God is—a loving Father who only wants the best for His children. If there's one thing to take away from this, it's that you'll never feel fully prepared to take the next step in life. In fact, most of the time, it feels quite the opposite. Yet, when God calls us, He simply asks us to take a step of faith into the unknown. Why? Because His plans are good, not evil. He has a purpose for your life, and He wants you to accomplish great things. He wants you to break chains and overcome limitations.
Remember, you don't have to be qualified for God to use you. That was never the point. It's in the midst of our perceived inadequacies that His greatness shines through, revealing His immense love for us. God loves you, and He desires to do extraordinary things through you—all it takes is a little faith.
Last night marked the end of my time as a youth pastor. I'm incredibly grateful for the church, my friends, mentors, and family who supported and encouraged me to take this leap of faith. I'll never forget this chapter of my life and how these amazing kids have changed my life in ways beyond imagination. Trust me, taking that step of faith can truly transform your life for the better.
