I am pleased to announce the upcoming release of my book, A Just Transition: Making Energy Poverty History with All Natural Resources. As a follow-up to Billions at Play, I set out to challenge readers to consider the far-reaching effects of global policy on the burgeoning economies of Africa. While the history of African aid is, unfortunately, paved with failure, investment in Africa represents an opportunity for all parties to experience prosperity and real economic transformation. Despite occupying a continent rich with abundant natural oil and gas resources, African countries continue to struggle with an energy crisis. There are an estimated 600 million people across Africa living without access to electricity Transcending this energy crisis and experiencing the associated economic uplifting continues to prove challenging as more and more investors abandon oil and gas projects to usher in renewable energy sources. While the objectives of this global movement to phase out non-renewable energy sources are based on a philanthropic idea, they unfortunately fail to acknowledge how substantially they hold back developing countries from prosperity. It is simply not possible for African countries to follow these emissions guidelines, lift African people up out of energy poverty, and produce self-sufficient economic prosperity. I believe that green energy holds great promise for the world as we continue to improve our technology and form more sustainable practices. But this is not a transition that every country can approach in the exact same manner. Through A #JustTransition, I hope to challenge the thinking of prescriptive legislation that aims to “think globally” without taking due consideration for the locality in which we live. This extends far beyond just Africa, affecting other developing countries and the energy economy at large. I believe that there is a way that we can meet the goals for renewable energy while playing to the strengths of Africa’s natural resources. Angola’s President João Lourenço has been selected as the ‘Energy Person of the Year’ by the African Energy Chamber , in recognition of his drive for good governance, commitment to reform and work to address corruption in Africa. The award recognizes President Lourenço’s instrumental role in transforming Angola into one of Africa’s biggest oil and gas producers and how his forward-looking vision is expected to consolidate the country’s position as a regional petroleum hub in #Africa. Since his election in 2017, President Lourenço has turned Angola’s economy – and broader oil and gas industry – around. With ageing oilfields and reduced upstream investment, the country was witnessing rapid production decline. However, President Lourenço’s long-term strategy to revitalize the industry saw a series of milestones achieved, and in 2025, the country continues to witness a positive growth trajectory across its oil and gas sector. By introducing flexible investment structures, President Lourenço spurred interest back into the industry, leading to greater investment across the entire energy value chain. These include risk service contracts, a permanent offer scheme, marginal fields opportunities and an incremental production initiative. The privatization of Sonangol, the establishment of the upstream and downstream regulators and revised tax codes have further catalyzed spending and transparency in #Angola. President Lourenço has not only been an instrumental leader in Angola but has played a major part in facilitating investment and development across the broader African oil and gas landscape. I am Absolutely NOT supporting or going to Africa Energies Summit® | Africa’s Premier Global Upstream Conference | 13th - 15th May 2025 in London. I know some of you will be mad but my position is consistent, i don't patronise or speak at events that refuse to hire or support black Africans. Local Content is important to me and the African Energy Chamber . We are a new generation of Africans and we have an obligation to ensure that Africans are respected in this oil sector that i love so much. These guys are scared and nervous around Africans. Don't spend your money where you can't work. I am not going to speak at a place where other blacks can't work. I just can't. I can't do it. This is 2025 Name one black employee at this organization or AES besides the cleanning lady or tea lady. I am not lonely.
