Selene, Greek goddess of the Moon 🌒 (also my all-time favorite Greek goddess, because as a child I adored everything moon-related) Part of a small series of goddesses I did for college this semester. It was really fun to learn new things about mythology, and to try to combine traditional elements of each culture with my own vision of each goddess. I also went for a different coloring style, keeping the lines visible and adding layers of color the way I would with watercolors. I think I learned a couple of things, and this really feels like a project I want to continue working on in the future ✨

#inktober day 14: consumption + delicate decay (from the awesome #drawtober prompt list) 🥀 . Consumption was the name given to tuberculosis up until 1839. The disease seemed to slowly "consume" its victims, leaving them with pale skin, very thin bodies, feverish red cheeks and fine, silky hair. Ironically, these qualities were perceived as beautiful, and women would try to emulate the illness's effects by means of corsets (to make the body appear slimmer) and makeup (to lighten the skin and redden lips and cheeks). . So what does consumption have to do with vampires? Well, because people didn't understand the disease and its rapid spreading, they started looking for a supernatural explanation. The belief was that if several people in a household began to fall ill after someone had died from consumption, it was a sign that the dead person had turned into a vampire and was attacking these people, draining their life force. The "solution" was to exhume the body of the diseased and check for signs of vampirism, turning to drastic measures to make sure the supposed vampire was double dead and unable to continue tormenting the living. A classic example would be driving a stake through the dead relative's heart. Ah, good old superstitious 19th century Europe and its love for mass hysteria 💀

Guess who decided to post something after a whole ass year of inactivity ✨ Does anybody even remember me? Please do say hi if I haven't spoken to you in months :') Anyway, I'm 26 today! So here's a little birthday post, a tradition I stole from a very cool artist some years ago. The earlier iterations are in the post before this one, if you're curious - I was too lazy to add them this time around ♥️ I'm doing fine by the way, the last year brought a lot of good things despite.. well, everything. I got my first job in animation! I started out doing props and environments, then did character design for a little while, and now I'm a background painter (plot twist, I can draw and paint environments now). The Canary Islands are a very nice place to live, too, even though I'm still missing Münster very much. But yeah, life is good, mostly? Anyway, I'm gonna get myself some pizza now, because that's the best way to celebrate anything in my book. Thanks for sticking around for so long, and sorry for the lack of updates! I hope to be around a little more in the future, but no promises 🤠 Have a lovely day, everyone!

Not a very happy birthday, but a birthday nevertheless~ I am, in fact, 25 today. How did that happen? No one knows 😳 Swipe to see my growing collection of rushed little birthday drawings ;v; I think I subconsciously made this year's post as bright and colorful as I could to gloss over the fact that I haven't felt so sad and lost in a really, really long time. I don't even know what to say. I've rewritten this caption 5 times and it sounds GLOOMY every time 😩 I hope you guys are doing okay. I hope that, if you feel sad and confused and anxious about the future, you know that you're not alone. I hope my headache goes away soon and my dog stops trying to steal my socks right off my feet, that silly little iDIOT

Pinterest shoved this photo in my face so many times I finally caved in and decided to do a messy little painting of it~ Pretty much lost my patience with those folds after about 2.5 hours and just called it a day 😂 Swipe to see the process 👉 . . . #artpractice#paintingprocess#paintingstudy#digitalartistsofinstagram#artstudy#digitalpainting#sketchyart#pinterestreference#foldsfoldsfolds

The other day I was thinking about how Doja Cat's music videos could be made into entire animated shows, and then somehow this happened 🍊 If I had the time (and any amount of consistency) I'd probably sketch every last character in the Planet Her universe 😩 . . . #dojacat#getintoityuh#characterdesign#warmupsketch#sketchysketches#expressionsheet#characterconcept#animatedseries#randomideas#sketchbookproject

Yesterday's warmup sketch ✏ You ever intend to just quickly study a reference and end up with something entirely unrelated instead... Because same 💃🏻 Also, in case anyone's like "wait did avvou finally discover straight lines and angles??" - why yes, actually! I've been looking at TB Choi's and Hicham Habchi's work a lot lately, and I wanna be cool like them, so bear with me while I figure out how muscles work once and for all 😌 (Btw we do not talk about that left hand xx) . . . #warmupsketch#sketcheveryday#anatomypractice#drawingvsreference#madewithwacom#photoshopdrawing#artiststruggles#warmupdrawing#doyouevenliftbro

Who's your favorite #Encanto character? ✨ The designs in that movie are all so GOOD. I have a weakness for Dolores with her red accents and heart-shaped earrings ❤️ Also, I was hoping drawing Encanto fan art would somehow free my mind from the Bruno song but nope, I'm still stuck singing it on repeat! We don't talk about Bruno no no no . . . #encantofanart#encantodisney#encantodolores#doloresmadrigal#lafamiliamadrigal#disneyillustration#sketches#warmupsketch#digitalartist#

Aaand that's it, there goes another mess of a year 👌✨ Despite having spent the year drawing pretty much non-stop, I haven't been very active here for most of 2021, so thanks to everyone who is still sticking around, your patience and support is kindly appreciated ❤️ Here's to making more art and reaching new goals! And maybe actually finishing something every once in a while 🤡 . . . #artvsartist#artvsartist2021#endoftheyear#bye2021

WIP of this redraw I recently shared the sketch of ✨ I was hoping to finish it before the year ended, but I've been spending the last couple of days writing instead of drawing, which honestly felt amazing because it had been ages since I last felt any motivation to write! The finished painting will have to wait until 2022, but that's okay, I guess - kinda fits the theme of 2021 where absolutely nothing went as initially planned 😌 . . . #workinprogress#wippainting#digitalpainting#adobephotoshop#wacom#redraw#portraitart#digitalillustration#characterillustration #bye2021

It's been 2 years 🤯 Which means a new redraw is on its way! . If you've been around for a while, you might know that I have a little tradition of remaking the same painting of my character Yvette every 2 years to see how my art has evolved and how I myself have changed since the first version in 2013. It's funny how looking at the old versions takes me back to who I was when I painted them, like looking at old photographs of yourself and seeing not only your body, but your mind as it was back then. I've learned so much with every new version, and I hope there'll be many more to come ❤️ . . . #redrawingoldart#sketchoftheday#digitalsketching#oldvsnew#redrawchallenge#sketchdaily#personalart#avvous_ocs#characterdesign#portraitpainting#wipart#drawthisagainchallenge

Just a few anatomy studies to fight the art block and pretend I know the first thing about muscle groups 💪 . . . #anatomypractice#sketchdump#drawingpractice#anatomystudies#grafitstudio#artresources#drawingfromreference#sketcheveryday#digitalsketching#legslegslegs
