Are you the kind of person who loves to snack? If so, Sonia might just be your soulmate. She'd love to be your snacking partner in crime and promises not to judge any of your choices. This brindle sato sweetheart and snacking aficionado is officially looking for her forever home! Sonia is another one of our pups we recently pulled from a municipal shelter. Sonia was positive for ehrlichia, a tick-borne blood disease, but is now receiving her life-saving treatment and doing very well. Now, Sonia is getting a renewed lease on life as she gets ready to go on #MissionPossible15 on August 27. She hopes to meet her family on the other side. As mentioned above, the easiest way to Sonia’s heart is through treats, and she will do almost anything to snag one. When she takes a seat and sticks her pointy #satoears up, we know that’s what she is waiting for. And her big, brown eyes help her get whatever she wants. Sonia is a well-behaved, outgoing pup who loves people and is very affectionate. She has a bit of an alpha-dog mentality and enjoys life in the spotlight. So if another dog is part of the family, Sonia would get along best with a sibling that is more on the submissive side. We estimate Sonia is around 4-5 years old, and she weighs about 40 pounds. Since Queso’s pups are big enough for a little independence, it means Queso is finally getting to enjoy some alone time. It also means we are officially accepting applications for this sweet mum to find a family of her own! Who is going to be the lucky family to spoil her like she deserves? As you might remember, Queso was rescued from the streets just in time to give birth in safety at our clinic - which likely saved her life and her pups’. Our vetting team ended up performing an emergency C-section. As you can tell from her healthy, happy puppies, Queso has been a wonderful mother. She is incredibly sweet, nurturing, sensitive, and loving. Whoever snatches up this special girl is going to be very lucky. Queso is very loyal and attaches quickly to ‘her people.’ She would make a wonderful addition to a family with kids or to anyone looking for a loyal best friend who will never leave your side. She does well with other dogs, but prefers to be around other dogs who have a calmer demeanor, like her. So, if there is another hyper dog a part of the household - it might not be the best fit for this girl. Queso is great with our resident cat, Boom, so she would be fine with cat siblings. Queso is estimated to be 2-3 years old and weighs around 40 lbs. We don’t know if this sweet mum ever really got to experience life as a puppy herself. So we can’t wait to see her placed with a perfect family who will love and spoil her like she truly deserves - and treasure her like the happy sato she was born to be. What’s this - a cat on our page? Our satos aren’t the only ones who got an upgrade thanks to #sanctuarybythesatoproject. Happy #InternationalCatDay from The Sato Project’s resident gato, Boom! His story started with us 1 year ago. He was surrendered at our veterinary office by a vet who was moving away and couldn't take him with her. Poor Boom needed a new home and it just so happened that this confident, rock-solid cat is great with dogs. He had the perfect skills for a job opening we were looking to fill… This very friendly boy is our official cat-tester. Boom, who might be the world’s silliest cat, makes sure our satos are cat-friendly before they go to their forever homes, and if they aren’t, this fearless feline definitely isn’t afraid to stand-up for himself. He plays the very important role of letting us know which satos should be placed in a home without cats. Boom upgraded from living in the clinic to #sanctuarybythesatoproject earlier this summer. He now lives in our office, which is right next door to our maternity suite. This also means that every sato who lives on our property from a young age (like Queso’s pups) has to walk through Boom’s domain and learn to respect him. When not cat-testing and teaching our satos vital manners, Boom’s favorite activities in our office are laying on his back, getting affection from our team, playing on his cat tree, and doing his best to restore order when the puppies get big enough to stage an office takeover. Cookie and Canela have had a lot of guardian angels looking out for them. These two #seniorsatos were once strays who lived outside of a warehouse. The warehouse workers got to know them and started to look after them. They worked together to make sure they got food every day and with the help of a nearby veterinarian, also got them vaccinated and spayed. A woman named Betsy Ann, who worked in another building nearby, also started to help by donating food and treats for them. But then another nearby office called animal control because they were getting complaints about Cookie and Canela bothering their customers. The warehouse workers tried hiding them inside of the warehouse, but it wasn’t a longterm solution. None of the people involved could take them home because they either already had dogs of their own or lived in apartments that did not allow pets. Finally one of the workers was able to move them to an abandoned house next his apartment. Here, he could at least look after them every day and keep them safe. But sadly, a few months later, this man suffered from a stroke. Another solution would need to be found again. This time, Betsy Ann stepped in to try to find the next answer. She was able to convince her parents to foster them temporarily while she did everything she could find a place for them to go. She reached out to everyone she could think of…but no one was willing to take them. Well, we are excited to share that now all of you are also a part of Cookie and Canela’s network of guardian angels. Not only does this bonded pair have spots reserved on #missionpossible15, they also have a new family lined up on the other side of the Atlantic who can’t wait to welcome them. They just need to take their #FreedomFlight and then they will finally have the safe and loving home they deserve - together - forever. Meet Kai Gautu. Kai was rescued from the streets as a puppy, but then his family dropped him off at a local boarding facility and never returned. Despite this heartbreak, Kai has the most positive presence. In fact, he might be the silliest of them all! Just one look at his #satosmile and anyone around him can’t help but smile too. Now, this sato is looking for the family, or person, who he can live happily ever after with. Kai Gautu would be the perfect addition to any family, because his happy personality is infectious and will make all who meet him fall in love. There isn’t a time when Kai Gautu turns down a good play session and he gets along with all dogs and children. Remember these four #satostrong fighters? Now they are all grown up, healthy, and ready for their new lives to begin. But first, they need your help! In addition to all of that, they were positive for deadly parvovirus. When we rushed them to our clinic, we were not sure if they would survive. However, you helped us fight for them and now here they are!  After recovering at our clinic, they had the honor of being some of the very first puppies to stay at #sanctuarybythesatoproject. They have all completely thrived here - but now it is time for them to move on to loving families of their own. Kat and Bubbles even have families already lined up and waiting for them as soon as they can fly!
