Back home from a wild couple of days in Italy @ucigravelworldseries worldchampionships. Good times with great people and overall a solid 10/10 holiday-race weekend. #grazie 168km, 5:31h riding time, 2014m of climbing. 278w avg (311w np). First 3h 300w avg (332w np) Splits: km/rank 46/125 68/113 97/100 132/87 168/81 I qualified already in April but signed up for the event kind of last minute. Last year I missed the worlds because of work and also this year it looked much like I had to work. Some weeks ago my schedule cleared. Only problem, I had no bike and no uci license. 3 weeks ago I bought a used gravel bike. I sold my race bike in summer as I thought I won't need it anymore this year. In the meantime I got my medical check and the license. Thanks @cycling_austria for the quick help and support through the race. 2 weeks ago I booked my apartement together with my new favourite room mate @ddeelen and 5 days ago I drove to Treviso. All excited to line up with some of the worlds greatest riders. I didn't expect much in terms of a result, given the not ideal prep over the last weeks. I wanted to cross the finish line and get close to 300w np for the race. The morning of the race was a nervous one but when the gun went I was in the zone and had a superb start. I avoid all the jams and small crashes and didn't have any bike problems. It was full gas racing from the start. Last years winner Vermeersch and his team mate Van Aert both punctures and had to stop at the first feedzone around 27km. For a short time I was ahead of them 😅 when they overtook me again I didn't even think of following. With the first climb I was out the back of the peloton. Throughout the race it was a mix of riders who caught up with me or who I caught back. Luckily I was always in small groups. The final 25km were just brutal but I paced it really well and never had a weak moment. Most of the climbs were full with spectators, that helped a lot. Italy really set the bar for next years host.
