Ted Ligety

Trying to practice what I preach. When coaching kids in gates I really try to drive home the importance of turn shape/where the turn needs to happen because if you don’t ski in the right place in the course it’s very hard to work on your skiing. If you can make 1 turn per gate you are way ahead of even most World Cup skiers. It’s shocking how even at the highest level how many great skiers are double turning or “pinching” the turn meaning they have to ease off the pressure of the ski to duck around the gate. This takes away most of the energy used to accelerate out of the turn. Most people look at the next gate start their turn way to early, stop themselves from turning too much at the apex because they would go inside the course then hammer on the turn after the gate. That is a double turn which is slow and tiring. My trick is to look where you want to go and not at the gates to make one smooth turn. 📷 @gopro #TechnicallyFun #dragginknucks#comeSHREDwithus #skiing @carv.ski #skiIQ161 #giantslalom #turnshape #goprosnow @ligetyweibrechtskicamp
