Throughout her provocative paintings and collages, Betty Tompkins explores the intricacies of sexual contact. In softly airbrushed paintings, she depicts photorealistic, black-and-white scenes of intimate, explicit, and erotic imagery. This subject matter has proved contentious—in 1973, French customs officials barred these “Fuck” paintings from entry, citing pornographic content. Text has also been integral to Tompkins’s practice; over the past decade, she has made paintings that depict words people use to describe women and painted #MeToo apologies over found imagery. Tompkins is now recognized as a pioneering force in the development of feminist art. She has exhibited in London, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Vienna, Brussels, and Copenhagen, and her work belongs in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Centre Pompidou, and the Islip Art Museum. • #bettytompkins @bettytompkinsart #art #love

Fondation Vasarely was established in 1966 by Victor Vasarely, aiming to build a centre "to promote his ideas of 'art for all' and of the 'city of tomorrow'." • Construction of the building started in 1973 with architects John Sonnier and Dominique Ronsseray implementing the designs of Vasarely, and it was inaugurated 14 February 1976. • #fondationvasarely #vasarelyfoundation #victorvasarely #museum #aixenprovence #johnsonnier #dominiqueronsseray

Joao Filgueiras Lima (June 19, 1931 - May 21, 2014) was an iconic Brazilian architect, also known as Lele. He was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1932 and later settled in Salvador. His projects transformed the look of industrial large-scale works and were always concerned with the issue of the human scale. The architect leaves us a great legacy of works throughout Brazil. During the construction of Brasilia in the late 1950s and at the beginning of the 1960s, Lele developed several projects alongside Oscar Niemeyer. In the 1970s, Lele began to pay more attention to the constructive efficiency of his projects, looking for fast and sustainable constructions. Lele experimented with self-supporting elements of reinforced concrete systems in several Brazilian cities.Few Brazilian architects have so many works that come from his drawing board like Joao Filgueiras Lima, Lele. The interest in an industrialized architecture arises from this moment, when Lele is forced to build an innumerable number of camps and wooden sheds. Something that, without proper rationalization, would take forever to get ready. From the outset, however, the idea of making architecture, even in its provisional nature, accompanied the architect's craft. Even these transient wooden constructions gained special attention, proving to be a first field of experimentation. • #lele #joaofilgueiraslima #love #architecture

Leonardo and Radioso. • Leonardo breeds, breaks, and train horses since he was very young. A family trade he learned from his father and uncles. • His father quit this job in order to get more money to support a family with three children. Buttero is not a job anymore because it doesn’t fit any economic reality. The strong passion that ties these horsemen to their companions is so strong that they would keep breeding and training horses before or after the regular shift of a job that pays the bills. This means waking up at 5am and going to bed quite late. It means no weekends or holidays. It means lot of efforts, energy, devotion. • The horse is way more than a working tool, it’s their reason, their whole life. The Butteri are proud to dress in their traditional garb, with a custom-made raincoat that has been passed through a generation and keep the traces of a family history alive. • #buttero #love #horse via scalzoarchive

André Bloc inside his structure habitacle in Meudon. • Engineer, architect, artist, editor, critic, André Bloc in 1930 founded the magazine “L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui” highlighting the critical debates of the post-war era and disseminating 'international modernism'. He then founded the magazine “Art d’Aujourd’hui” (1949) which became “Aujourd’hui” (1955-1967), advocating the integration of the arts. In 1951, André Bloc founded with Felix del Marle the group “Espace”, which encouraged integration of arts in architecture in order to "promote the collaboration of the painter, the sculptor and the architect". Bloc co-opted the neo-Plasticism of the 1920’s into the modern avant-garde, before moving in the late 1950’s to a sculptural approach to architecture. In the 1950’s, André Bloc turned his own house in Meudon into a testing ground for the synthesis of arts, designing it himself. He accomplished this symbiosis between architecture and sculpture with the “Habitacles”, he realized in his garden in 1962, and his house in Carboneras, Spain, (1966). • #andrebloc #meudon #architecture #love

"Hernández" 14:00 #1245 • The house that dance built Agustín Hernández believed architecture should reflect one's movement thgough life. The house he built for his sister, the legendary choreographer Amalia Hernández, embodies a delicate dance between intimacy and outward expression. Agustín Hernández Navarro is a Mexican sculptor and architect. Navarro was born in Mexico City, the son of politician Lamberto Hernández and Amalia Navarro, he is the brother of choreographer Amalia Hernández, architect Lamberto Hernández, Delfina Hernández and Gabriela Hernández. He studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, earning his degree in 1954, where he's been giving lectures for some time. The leading exponent of "emotional" architecture, Hernandez has fused elements from Mexico's Pre-columbian past in his contemporary architecture. He has stated to normally start by designing vertical elements of a building, such as the stairs of the building/house as he feels these are of much importance. He has said his architecture unites structure, form and function, just as in organic nature. • Picture by Leslie Williamson • • #architecture #barcelona #inspiration #love #house #home #interior #AgustínHernándezNavarro #AgustínHernández #architect #design #photography
