What I learned from this piece: if you try to animate everything, nothing will be obvious. For example, did you see the wax dripping? Or the floating flower in the jar? Or the flickering behind the candles? I animated the edge moving and decided that was too much. It’s just too fun playing with animation with Procreate Dreams. Made in Procreate Dreams for @furrylittlepeach ’s Drawing Challenge! I combined the prompts for ‘Eye’ and ‘Cosmos’. I’ve been having so much fun playing and experimenting with the animation (@Procreate kindly offered me early access). I’m coming up with so many ideas for fun, easy ways to use it to add motion to illustrations. For sure I’ll be sharing more when Procreate Dreams launches publicly. And I’m learning lots and lots in the meantime and making a bunch of art. Procreate invited me to London for a special announcement: they’ve got something fun up their sleeve and I can’t wait to share with you what it is! I used to live in Maui: I worked in Lahaina, as an art teacher at an elementary school. Maui is where my fiance Dan and I met. . I’m still processing the fires. Even though a week has passed, only 30% of the town has been searched, and every day brings heartbreaking new losses. I feel lucky to have Dan, who also lived in Maui, to be processing it with. We’ve been talking, shedding tears, and navigating our emotions side by side every day.

So in the spirit of processing, I wanted to share a few memories I have of Lahaina. They’re all art related, so that fits into what I ‘should’ be sharing as a brand on instagram, right? But that’s cuz Lahaina WAS a massive part of my development as an artist. .
I taught 3rd and 5th grade art at Princess Nāhiʻenaʻena Elementary School. It was here that I truly started TEACHING, developing my own lessons and curriculum. We drew bamboo to learn how to shade. We learned color theory by collaging old magazines. How line weight makes your art more interesting, how to illustrate textures. And my 5th graders legitimately learned to DRAW - I remember one student showing a jaguar he drew on his own after our lessons and I was so impressed. I think one of my 3rd graders had a crush on me (see very cute photo). He told me had a dream I was famous for my art. But it's cuz of those kids anyone would ever know me for my art - it’s where I fumbled through learning to create my own lessons... and navigating the emotions that come up when students are learning to make art. . My heart hurts for the community, the aina. In a bittersweet twist, reaching out to friends I haven’t spoken to in years has also brought happiness. When you move a lot like I have, staying in touch isn’t easy. Funny how tragedy can also bring happiness through connection. I've fond memories of Christmas caroling as pirates in Lahaina, Halloween’s spent in Lahaina, even weddings in Lahaina. . Anyway, I just want to share what’s on my mind and how I’m feeling.

Once upon a time, I vanished from the social media realm for a whopping four months. 📅 It wasn't intentional, but a whirlwind of creativity swept me away to a magical place called The Illustrator's Launchpad! 🎨✨ In April, I took a leap of faith and pre-sold my dream art program, filled with excitement and a touch of nervousness. And since then, I’ve had my head down creating what’s essentially 6 classes worth of juicy lessons. It hasn’t been easy: I’ve never pre-sold anything and I wanted to deliver something good and FAST. I’ve never worked at this pace before: It’s been both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. 😅🎨 And I definitely needed extra help: I brought on a 4th person to our team (shoutout to the amazing @amythakrardesign ) and revamped the way I operate my business. Not all of it was glamorous (hello, email provider switch!), but it's all part of the growth as an artist, teacher, and boss. 🌟💪 And the proudest moments come from witnessing the program's impact on my students. 🎉🎨💪 Their art is flourishing, and they're soaking up new knowledge to create stellar masterpieces. I couldn't be prouder! 🌟
Admittedly, my absence meant I neglected my channels: Instagram, YouTube, even my newsletter. 😅 But fear not!
