The 238,885 square meters Satellite Concourse will support the growing needs of the airport and serve up to 22 million passengers per annum. Arranged on the airport’s central axis with Terminal 3 and the future Terminal 2, the buildings are efficiently connected by the Automated People Mover (APM) system, as well as the baggage handling and goods delivery systems. “The organising principles are functionality and flexibility, with an overarching goal to provide a seamless travelling experience that focuses on passengers’ wellbeing.” This vision, articulated by Aedas Executive Director Albert Tong, is illustrated by the comprehensive and well considered design. Based on the design brief and extensive research, the optimized X-shape plan configuration for the Satellite Concourse allows smooth and efficient airfield operations and creates a delightful travel experience for passengers by means of the short walking distance. Let’s build with nature and not against nature ! 🛳🚢⛴ The "Manta Ray" Ferry Terminal by @vincentcallebautarchitectures strives to be a prime example of energy saving, reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and circular economy. In order to optimize the cycle and resources, the ferry terminal embraces the three R's of waste management: Reduction in waste; Reuse of resources; and Recycling of materials. The honeycomb-like CLT structure is thus entirely generated from local eco-responsible forest trees, where harvested trees are systematically replaced according to nature's regeneration cycles. The materials used for interior spaces and furniture also come from biosourced, recyclable and/or recycled origin. In order to produce 100% of its energy needs, the floating terminal also includes the following renewable energies: 1. Solar: The rooftop includes 4,4550 square meters (c. 49,000 square feet) of laminated glass faade, with encased photovoltaic polycristalline cells. The roof edge is lined with 3,500 square meters (c. 37,300 square feet) of opaque photothermal panels. 2. Wind: Rooftop wind trees make up a 52-VAWT (vertical axis wind turbine) farm. 3. Biomass: Organic and biodegradable waste from Yeouido Park supply a biomethanation plant, providing energy for the equipments. 4. Water: Oscillating-foils hydrokinetic turbines (HAO) are integrated and synchronized along the hull of the large floating barrier encircling the marina. Biomimetically-inspired from the tail of a whale or dolphin, they move back and forth by tilting their profile, turning the river's kinetic energy into electrical energy. The winning project is the "Low version". This "High version" was one of our preliminary conceptual sketch required during this competition. In ecology, the "climax" is a theoretical state in which a soil or plant community has reached a state of stable and lasting equilibrium with the edaphic factors (relating to the composition of the soil) and climatic conditions of the environment. By ecological metaphor, the project "Climax Panoramic" thus designates two vertical forests eco-designed according to the climatic data of the place and covered with endemic plant species. Rising spiraling towards the sky, these two vertical forests rise towards the sky Aix-les-Bains and become a new identity landmark of the city. They offer sumptuous views to their residents and seem to embrace the mountains from the pedestrian area. Inspired by the DNA chain, a symbol of balance and harmony, these two twin towers literally open the arms of the city and the Place Maurice Mollard. Indeed, the towers are rooted symmetrically on the orthogonal structure of the Thermes. Since this rational implantation, the structure of each of them gradually worm fan-shaped 3 degrees from floor to floor to perform a full twist of fifty degrees.
