#Hokulea #WaaKaulua #Nonosina Out of all the remarkable events Nonosina Polynesia has been a part of this year, the Hōkūleʻa festival in Marina Del Rey stands out as having the most profound cultural significance. The Hōkūleʻa originally launched on March 8th, 1975 from the shores of Hakipu’u-Kualoa (Kāne’ohe Bay, O’ahu). The Hōkūle’a is a traditional double-hulled voyaging canoe “wa’a kaulua” without modern adaptation of technology & has played a defining role in the history of Polynesian people. It launched a revitalization of Polynesian culture on many levels. Our opportunity to perform and offer our heartfelt dance, chants, and songs to the Hōkūleʻa was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was our way of sending her back home with love, mana, and appreciation for her extraordinary contributions. To our cast & family members: Nonosina Polynesia remains at the forefront of preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage.
