Tacugama

All the guardians of the ambassador chimpanzees at Tacugama have received an update in their mailbox 🙌 If you are one the guardians, let us know in a comment who you support! The guardianship program is very important to us. It gives us a steady income to care for the rescued chimpanzees and it is a great opportunity for us to share more about our work with you in the sanctuary and to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the health and progress of the rescued chimpanzees. For just 5 USD per month, you can also support one of the 13 ambassador chimpanzees. You will receive a digital guardian certificate, a full chimp biography and quarterly updates. All the funds raised from your guardianship will go directly to the care of the chimpanzees🙏 To become a guardian, please visit: https://linktr.ee/tacugama And to all you guardians out there: thank you for your support💚💚💚

Today our outreach team shared some exciting news all the way from Loma Mountains National Park. Photo 1 was taken by wildlife photographer @renato_granieri_photography last year. It is a portrait of two of our newly qualified eco-guards. The photo was awarded as grand prize winner of the @natgeotravel photography competition 2023. Last month our outreach team went back to Loma, showed the ladies the photo and took a similar photo with the proud eco-guards holding the award winning photo 🙌 Pretty awesome right😃!

For Janet, life is becoming a big adventure 💫 Since she came to the sanctuary, she has been very confident and always with tons of energy. She has been with the group of Kaina, Mini Winnie, and Chicha and she is a dominant girl. A few weeks ago, we tried to integrate her in a new group with Okonko and Manzo, but Okonko did not accept her, and now she’s back with the group of Kaina, Mini Winnie and Chicha. We will keep working with her and reinforce her social skills, and maybe we can surprise you in a few months about her integration with other chimpanzees. 🐒🤍

- Sonia’s Health Check - Sonia captured many hearts over the years and has already encountered a few incidents in her short life. Each time, she pulls off a miracle and survives to normal function. A few days ago, the veterinary team conducted a health check on Sonia and a contraceptive implant was placed because she started to have a swelling. In terms of her overall health, Sonia is in excellent condition. At the age of seven, she weighs 25 kg. Some years ago, Sonia experienced a fracture. As part of the recent health check, X-rays were taken to assess the plate in her leg, and we are delighted to report that everything looks perfectly fine! 🌟 Sonia is one of the ambassador chimps at Tacugama and you can support her by becoming her guardian! Our quarterly report Q4 2023 is out now! Tacugama is so much more than a sanctuary. At @tacugama, young orphaned chimpanzees learn from their surrogate mother or father how to climb, build nests, identify what to eat and avoid in the forest, engage in ant fishing, and so much more. They also learn to interact with each other. Preparing a rescued chimpanzee for life in a group requires an immense amount of time, love, and patience. You can help this amazing work continue with @tacugama via @ecoflixofficial as 100% of your subscription fee will go direct to Tacugama when you select them as your chosen NGO! Watch endless animal and wildlife films whilst knowing your subscription fee is saving animals and the planet.

It is with deep sadness that Tacugama offers heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Christophe Boesch and the entire @wildchimpanzeefoundation . The recent news of Dr. Boesch’s passing has left us profoundly saddened, and we extend our sympathies during this difficult time. Dr. Boesch’s unwavering dedication to chimpanzees and conservation in West Africa has left an indelible mark, and we acknowledge the immense gap his absence will create. In 2021, Tacugama embarked on a meaningful collaboration with WCF in the Outamba Kilimi National Park, an initiative we are sincerely grateful for. Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Christophe Boesch. May his legacy continue to inspire conservation efforts for the benefit of chimpanzees and our shared environment. Tacugama rangers unite! In collaboration with the NPAA, rangers work hard to patrol the forests to protect against poaching and deforestation. 💪🏿 🌳
