On this teacher’s Day, we went around and collected some stories from our colleagues about their teachers! “I was in Grade 1 and my teacher sent me to the blackboard (we were using chalks at that time😅 ) to write the word “oeil” - which means eye in French. I falteringly wrote “oeiuil” on the board and stared at my shoes. He looked at me and took out the class's most feared metal ruler. As the ruler left its imprint on my hand, my 6-year-old self started her journey of loving books (essentially not to see the ruler again)😉.” “My math teacher would teach us very well in class, we’ll all understand the subject well, but then will give us homework that not even my parents could understand. Then when we all got zero, he’ll tell us we’re trying to make him lose his job. I still think of him and laugh to this day!” “My maths teacher was always complaining that we are behind in the syllabus. Somehow I thought we would never ever catch up, so I naturally gravitated towards the opposite of numbers...words❤️ and I’ve never looked back!” To all the teachers out there, thank you for your dedication. ALU is proud to present the launch event of our Nairobi Hub 🥳 Our hubs provide opportunities for students to form new friendships, complete challenging hands-on projects, absorb new cultures and perspectives, manage finances and live independently, and build lifelong relationships with community stakeholders. In this way, ALU students and graduates are parallelly prepared for the real world to be innovative thinkers, intellectual risk-takers, and entrepreneurial problem-solvers.
