Plasencia Reserva Original Robusto (Also photo bombed by @alexkoso97 🤣💣) “Upon lighting the cigar I am greeted by a strong charred wood backbone with undertones of salt and sugar on the sides and tip of my tongue. As we smoke on, further into this third, I’m reminded of freshly baked doughy sourdough biscuit with honey butter. Pushing some smoke through the nose and the sinuses awaken with the tingle of fresh ground cinnamon and a vegetal note that is not easily identified. Finish is medium in length, but only if you retrohale it. Much like the aroma notes I find all of this interesting. This cigar started off with a dry spice. Was not overpowering but it did sit at the back of the throat for a minute to let you know it was there. After the initial dry spice settled in you started to get some cedar and earth. I was also picking up some cherry which was very nice. As the first third was finishing up I started to get some nut flavor which played nice with the initial spice pepper flavor. A A mint jam note joins the fray, as we start this second third, acting as a nice topping to that sourdough biscuit. The mint becomes the main focus, presenting as a fresh mint leave on on both the palate and in the sinuses as I smoke deeper into this third. Digging deeper, into the smoke, we find a cinnamon and cedar undertone that ebbs and flows helping to lengthen the finish. Smoke production is light but the mouth feel is creamy. What smoke that is found is dense. The complexities of this third has my full attention. Definitely the best that this cigar offered. The final third again played in the earth flavors. Normally when transitions occur when smoking a cigar, certain stronger notes fade to the back while newer, more pronounced, flavors come to the fore. This was not the case with the 702 Series Special R. Instead of the oakiness fading away, you’re introduced to an earthy nuttiness that is difficult to explain with words. The nuttiness does not overwhelm the notes of oak and the finish is still creamy. In the second third of the cigar you’re introduced to a mellow sweetness that combines well with the previous flavors pervading the palate. In the last third, a mild pepper mixes with the lingering earthy flavors and continues to finish with some cream. The one thing that amazed me the most about this cigar was the subtlety in its transitions, especially when transitioning to flavors that are paradoxical in nature, such as the transition to a combination of pepper and cream. Liga Undercrown Robusto Maduro The first thing I notice about the cigar is just how firm it is. The wrapper is very oily with a beautiful sheen and a complex vein structure. Notes of sweet chocolate, dried fruit, coffee, and cedar are prevalent in the pre-light aroma, while the cold draw adds layers of birch beer, cherry, and cracked black pepper. As soon as I fire up the foot, a sucker-punch of pepper and black coffee notes greets the palate. As the aged tobacco gets hot, hints of oak, cedar, and moss enter the picture. Near the halfway mark, the profile delivers campfire-like aromas with sweet, underlying notes of dried cranberry. As the second half of the cigar progresses, its sweetness is the most noticeable characteristic. The spices are reduced to a minimum by the time I reach the last two inches. A complex finish results as the initial notes of birch beer in the cold draw return. The cigar produces a tremendous amount of smoke – far more than any cigar I have ever smoked before. Its wavy burn required two separate touch ups. Despite being tightly packed, the draw was satisfying. Liga Undercrown is certainly a cigar you should sit down to smoke. The blend starts out medium-bodied but slowly amps its way up.
