Repost @mikaelaloach ・・・ When @instagram asked me to create a reel for their “Our Planet In Crisis” series, I had a big think about what message I would want to put out to their 436 million followers 😅 I went with this & I didn’t tone it down ✊🏽 accounts to follow: @cop26coalition @stopcambo @paidtopollute @pollutersout @re.earthorg @vanessanakate1 @climateincolour @theslowfactory @decolonizemyself @badactivistcollective @fridaysforfuture @intersectionalenvironmentalist @atmos references: @atmos “We did not cause the climate crisis”, CDP: https://www.cdp.net/en/articles/media/new-report-shows-just-100-companies-are-source-of-over-70-of-emissions , Oxfam: https://www.oxfam.org/en/press-releases/carbon-emissions-richest-1-percent-more-double-emissions-poorest-half-humanity Transcript: You’ve probably been told that “we” or “humanity” have caused climate change. But, I’m going to explain why “we” did not cause the climate crisis. Language matters here. When 100 companies are responsible for 71% of industrial greenhouse gas emissions since 1988 and the world's richest 1% of the population produce more than double the carbon emissions of the poorest half of the world, “we” did not cause the climate crisis. Systems caused it. Capitalism caused it. White supremacy caused it. Blaming “humanity” as a whole means the 1%, these companies and our governments escape genuine responsibility. Whilst “we” might not have caused this crisis. We NEED to be the ones who tackle it. We will hold fossil fuel companies accountable. We will challenge white supremacy and disrupt capitalism. We are the ones to build new worlds. Change is not passive. It comes from all of us. It comes from collective action. So, join or set up a COP26 Coalition group in your local area - or join a different climate group in any way you can using whatever skills you have - and take part in the global day for climate action on 6th November. Make sure to follow the accounts and groups tagged in the caption. Because when we come together: we win. Even though…

October 25 is Larry Itliong Day and October is Filipino American History Month. Repost @chavezfoundation & @fanhs_national ・・・ Slide 1: @fanhs_national: "One of the speakers at the first Far West Convention in 1971 was a labor activist named Larry Itilong. Larry D. Itliong was a Filipino American labor organizer who is best known for leading the Filipino American farmworkers in the Delano Grape Strike of 1965. Also known as ""Seven Fingers"", he coordinated the first strike of the Agricultural Workers Committee (AWOC) - which consisted mostly of Filipino workers- on September 8, 1965. After 1500 Filipinos went on strike, he approached and convinced Cesar Chavez to organize Mexican farmworkers to join in the movement a week later. The strike is viewed as one of the most effective labor movements in American history. Decades later, his birthday October 25 is now celebrated as Larry Itliong Day in the state of California and across the US. In October 2021, Gayle Romasanta and Brian Pangilinan premiered songs from a new musical about Larry Itiong called ""Larry: A New Musical."" For more information visit, larrythemusical.com." #LarryItliong #LarryItliongDay #FAHM #FAHM2021 #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth Slide 2 @chavezfoundation: Happy Larry Itliong Day, an official day in California that recognizes the famed Filipino farm union leader. When the Manongs, Filipino grape workers, heroically walked out on strike against Delano-area table and wine grape growers on Sept. 8, 1965, Itliong quickly asked Cesar Chavez’s predominantly Latino union members to join their picket lines, which they did. After decades of growers breaking farm labor strikes by pitting the races against each other, Itliong, Chavez, and leaders of both unions insisted all strikers share the same picket lines, union hall, and strike kitchen. The two unions merged the following year to form the United Farm Workers. They organized the grape boycott. That genuine solidarity between the races that Larry Itliong initiated was a key factor in the success of the five-year grape strike and boycott, and the establishment of the UFW as the nation’s first enduring farm worker union. #SiSePuede
