Reflecting on efforts to strengthen education in Nepal! A sharing event was organized in Kathmandu as part of the EU-UNICEF partnership to support Nepal's education sector response to COVID-19 crisis, bringing together representatives from the Government of Nepal, development partners, educators and caregivers from around the country. The EU-UNICEF partnership – in collaboration with Educational Pages, Mercy Corps and NSET – has been working to reduce disparities in education outcomes for children in basic and secondary education during the COVID-19 response, early recovery and school reopening phases in Nepal. The project’s coverage extends across 80 local governments in 17 districts. “Coordination in this context is crucial,” said Juan Casanova from the EU in Nepal, explaining the project’s focus on strengthening the capacities of education clusters, and appreciating the efforts of the federal, provincial and local governments in taking up the challenge through the project. The meeting provided a platform for participants to reflect on insights from the project's execution, advocate for continued support in strengthening Nepal's education cluster, and emphasize the importance of learning recovery initiatives. “I urge everyone to utilize the lessons learned from this partnership to further our collective work to improve education in Nepal,” said Jee Hyun Rah, UNICEF Deputy Representative for Nepal. “What we have achieved together in the selected palikas now needs to be scaled up nationwide to benefit all children in the country.” This was echoed by Dr. Hari Prasad Lamsal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, who said that the next step should be to sustain the progress made by the project and “strengthen the existing institutional arrangements in the education sector.” Learn more about the project: https://www.unicef.org/nepal/media/18636/file @euinnepal
