FORMER Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) executive director Kaela Siame has been sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour for illegally approving payment of substance allowances to KGRTC workers worth US$35,000. https://www.facebook.com/100064560977290/posts/640497138112313/ Mr Siame was this morning found guilty of nine counts of abuse of authority of office by Lusaka Magistrate Faides Hamaundu, who sat in an Economic and Financial Crimes Court. In June last year, the Anti-Corruption Commission arrested and charged Mr Siame, 57, of Camp 1 Kafue Gorge, with nine counts of Abuse of authority of office. It was alleged to have abused his authority of office when he, on multiple occasions between 2016 and 2020, when arbitrarily approved applications for subsistence allowances amounting to US$35,000 for a project that was fully sponsored. KOAS chairman Antonio Shabir Wadee said at a press briefing in Lusaka. “We are proud to announce that the next game will be in the next three months we will announce the team, we are bringing African legends, We have guys in the likes of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, the other names will be announced,” Wadee said. The announcement comes just a week after the 2012 Chipolopolo Africa Cup of Nations winning squad’s 3 – 0 win over the Ronaldinho – led Barcelona Legends at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka. The match was a huge success, with a record crowd of over 60,000 people in attendance. Meanwhile, KOAS director projects Tchaona Mawoni said the idea behind hosting regular exhibition games is to continue marketing Zambia’s tourism industry. “We need to market the country so that people can come here directly and leave their money here,” he said. Mawoni said KOAS will announce the money raised from the match as soon as private auditors that have been engaged complete their work. “After the audit process we will be able to share that [amount raised from tickets] with our partners, we are a private company, and we are also expecting some results in terms of the gate takings,” Mawoni said (Mwebantu, Friday, 2nd June, 2023)

THE Lusaka Magistrate's Court has allowed Lusaka businessman Harry Findlay to access his passport to enable him access medical attention abroad but warned him to take back the travel document when he returns back to Zambia. https://www.facebook.com/100064560977290/posts/640479114780782/ But the release of the passport through an order by Lusaka senior resident magistrate Sylvia Munyinya is temporary. Magistrate Munyinya yesterday granted an application by Mr Findlay’s lawyers who applied that it be released ro the enable their client access medical treatment abroad. Findlay is facing two counts of holding more than one passport and being in possession of endorsements of forged immigration stamps. Allegations are that on October 3, 2022, in Lusaka, the accused acquired a Zambian passport number ZP021382, purporting to have lost a Zambian passport number ZP013259, when in fact not. It is further alleged that on the same date, Findlay was found in possession of endorsements of forged immigration stamps for Mwami immigration border control in his passport number ZP032178. He allegedly purported that the stamp was officially endorsed when in fact not. During trial, Findlay’s lawyers applied that his passport be released to enable him travel abroad to seek medical care for his severe heart condition. When the case resumed, magistrate Munyinya said that Findlay produced the required documents enabling him to seek medical treatment abroad. “There is need to strike a reasonable balance between the two competing interests of the health concerns of the accused and the preservation of the passport which forms part of the prosecution's evidence. “I order that the passport, which is in the custody of the clerk of court, be released to the accused upon photocopying it and certifying the copy. “Further, upon return, the accused is obligated to surrender the said passport to the clerk of court,” magistrate Okoh said. WITH Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH) geared to do facial reconstruction surgery on seven people on Monday, an eighth patient has opted to instead seek prayers to get rid of his tumor. https://www.facebook.com/100064560977290/posts/640342601461100/ The patient, who is believed to have Ameloblastoma, a rare non cancerous tumour which often develops in the jaw area, instead decided to travel to Uganda to seek healing from a named pastor. The patient is believed to have approached the health facility seeking a referral letter to travel to go and have his tumor removed through prayers, however, hospital personnel declined as he needs serious surgical intervention. Also among the patients that are set to be operated on is a 13-year-old child whose tumor if left unattended to, stands to have it grow to the size of a head. The patients who will be operated on are from Luanshya, Ndola, Kalulushi and Kitwe. The conditions being operated for are Ameloblastoma and sub manibular fibroma. KTH Dental Surgeon and Head of Dental and maxillofacial Doctor Dominic Muswala in an interview with Mwebantu said he received a patient seeking a referral letter to have his tumour removed through prayer. "We have one patient who was supposed to be operated on as he has Ameloblastoma. He came to say he is going for prayers and so he wanted a letter because their is some pastor in Uganda. It is quite a big tumour, but he has been convinced from whatever church he goes to. However, I told him I cannot give a letter," he said. Dr Muswala said that it was sad that the man insisted to go for prayers, instead of undergoing surgery. "Prayer should be coupled with surgery. But he has insisted that he just needs prayers," he said. Dr Muswala also said however, that seven others will undergo surgery on Monday, June 5th and among the seven is a 13-year-old child. "It is a condition we call fibrous displeasure where cells of the bone overgrow. It's is a deformity. If it is left , sometimes without being attended to, it grows to the size of the head, making a patient seem like they have two heads. It is quite big and is near the nose and eye area, so we need to remove it," he said.
