For the new members of our community, we felt the need to introduce ourselves here. At Slow Factory, we observe that pollution is by design, injustice is by design—and therefore we use design to imagine, architect and build new paradigms, ones that are deeply rooted in the idea that « Everything you make returns to the Earth as either food or poison » We are currently in the process of building a climate school that applies climate justice and human rights practices on designing new systems, waste-to resource products and materials. Looking to Black fashion and dress as a primary somatic process, one that is tied to psychological and spiritual freedoms is to release it from the damaging and enmeshed systems of colonial visual exposure and corporeal violence. We’re heartbroken. We’re exhausted. We’re enraged. The issue of Palestine isn’t complicated. It’s about human rights. Period. Jenin is under siege. Palestine is under attack and remains endangered as long as Isra*l continues to execute these raids and wage wars under the guise of “self-defense” while the US and the rest of the world looks away and tries to justify it. 12 Palestinians dead, at least 4 of whom were minors. This is an ongoing, recurring, never ending generational trauma happening again to the descendants of the Palestinians exiled from their own land in 1948. Jenin is home to more than 22,000 Palestinians, mostly in refugee camps created when they were expelled from their ancestral homes in 1948 during the Nakba, with nowhere to go, no citizenship in the newly created state of Israel, and little hope of return. Phytoplankton! The tiny organisms responsible for purifying carbon dioxide into oxygen. Since we have the ocean to thank for every other breath we take, I believe a phytoplankton shout out is in order! However, it seems you can have too much of a good thing when that good thing really shouldn’t be in overdrive because of fossil fuel extraction.
