Fridays Ocean.... #FOTD 🌊 Did you know, many animals use their camoflage abilities as defense from predators... But the Frogfish uses its modified dorsal fin to attract its prey. Using their dorsal fin with a retractable lure which resembles a shrimp to catch its prey. If the lure is eaten or damage it can be regenterated. 📷: @jeffbhester

"Yudmila is Love The Oceans 2023 Intern✨⁠ ⁠ An experienced marine biologist from Mozambique, Yudmila has been studying local marine ecosystems and is currently finishing her master’s degree in marine science at Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo. Throughout her career she has been part of a wide range of conservation projects working with different ecosystems and species and thanks to her academic background in conservation and biology together with her interest in sustainable development and conservation, she has been able to work on projects that tackle not only biodiversity conservation problems but also the role of local communities in ecosystem protection frameworks. From the ecosystem dynamics of dugong feeding grounds, to predicting the effects of ocean acidification on marine life, Yudmila is now part of Love The Oceans, working to protected the marine life in Jangamo Bay using a holistic strategy. Through the prestigious PCLM (Mozambique Conservation Leadership Program) funded by Biofund Yudmila has been able to join LTO and we're excited for her journey with us." ⁠ ⁠ 📷: @mario_gemo_guilamba

Nosetripe anemonefish or Skunk Clown (Amphiprion akallopisos) it’s just mesmerizing to watch these guys and the symbiont relationship with the giant anemone . These fish are very territorial and it’s amazing to observe them protect the anemone. Did you know the bodies of these fish are coated with a special mucus that protects them from the stinging tentacles of the anemone? . In honour of 📚️National Book Lovers Day📚️ we wanted to share a few of our favourite ocean books...⁠ ⁠ 📘 Rewilding the Sea by @bluemarinefoundation 's @charles.clover discusses, explores, and celebrates what happens when we step aside and let nature repair the damage we have caused.⁠ ⁠ 📘 Oceans Anatomy: The Curious Parts & Pieces of the World Under the Sea by @juliarothman takes a deep dive into exploring the shoreline, open ocean, and below the waves for colourful anatomical profiles of various different sea creatures.⁠ This book gets a LOT of use at our base in Mozambique and is one of the most useful books we've found for capacity development around ocean life. ⁠ ⁠ 📘 All We Can Save by @ayanaeliza and Katherine K Wilkinson whilst not solely ocean focussed, All We Can Save illuminates the expertise and insights of dozens of diverse women leading on climate in the United States.⁠ ⁠ 📘 The Outlaw Ocean by @ian_urbina covering everything from traffickers and pirates to shackled slaves and cast-adrift stowaways this book explores how the ocean plays host to rampant criminality and exploitation.⁠ ⁠ Then for the little fish in your life: ⁠ ⁠ 📘 Somebody Swallowed Stanley by @sarahsrealjob gently educates youngsters about the plastic crisis and is an ideal springboard for further discussion about protecting the natural world.⁠ ⁠ 📘 A Day In The Life Of Sharks by @therealcarlee_b introduces kids to cool facts about sharks and encourages kids to look at sharks in a new light—not just fearsome hunters but endangered animals who play a key role in the ocean’s ecosystem. Meet the team 🏋‍♀️⁠ ⁠ Meet Abdulazise, our incredible Ocean Conservation Champion! 🙌⁠ ⁠ Abdul is one of our keenest swimmers in our Ocean Conservation Champion program. Growing up near the river meant he had more opportunity to learn to swim as a child. As a result, he's a very strong swimmer and will no doubt be doing his PADI Scuba qualifications soon!
