New Costume Reveal! It's always a beautiful moment for me to finally finish making a costume then get to take it for a proper test run. I admittedly don't love the entire process of making my own costumes because it's a lot of work, time, and money for quality materials. It's tedious and it doesn't always goes as planned, but the end result of getting to dance in something that I have designed and made to be what I wanted/needed for my dancing is well worth it to me in the end. It is a long game, like a lot of things. You only get to that end result by continuing to show up, even when you are struggling to. It has also helped further my appreciation and gave me expanded insight of what goes into making art in various mediums. And since someone always asks, I do not make costumes to sell and I don't see that ever changing. I don't know if I am a slow sewist (Maybe I am?!? I think I probably am) But my costumes usually take me an average of 40 hours minimum (some have been much longer, I am very bad at keeping track after a certain point), then factor in the cost of materials etc, there is no way anything I made would be "affordable", nevermind not having the time.  I will say I have never come across an "overpriced" bellydance costume. In fact compared to other dance genres bellydance costuming is typically wildly well priced for what you get. So if you have found a costume vendor you love,  remember to show your appreciation for their work. If you haven't found one you love yet, maybe thats a sign to try learning to make your own costumes yourself. You might not enjoy it, or you might find you really enjoy, but you won't know unless you try :) You can learn to dance with me (and also learn how to make a fabulous fringe belt and learn all about materials involved in costume makinv) on my patreon www.patreon.com/cassandrafoxdance All my tutorials are slow paced and thorough so you don't need prior experience in dance or sewing, you just need to be willing to try :) Thanks for the continued kindness and support. Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. ❤ Song is "Laylat Hob" (live studio version) by Maya Naim Veil is by @silksbycelestina

It can feel like such a challenge to remain soft in a world that can often seem like it is constantly trying to harden us. So I am choosing to lean into trying to find strength through softness in my dancing and in my day to day life. It took me awhile to really understand that strength wasn't just about the biggest and fastest movements, and that the real power of strength is having nuanced control over one's own self, both physically and emotionally. I thought I would share this improvisation from the other day. I couldn't remember this song so it was perfect to allow me to just be and let what had to come out come out without anticipating or thinking about it. I have been feeling pretty raw lately since the loss of Queenie and hadn't had the mojo to dance to for a few weeks, so I have been trying to embrace these feelings and move with them,  instead of just pushing them aside. Song is "Aminti Billah" by Samir Srour I did want to say a very heartfelt thank you to those who sent their thoughtful condolences and sending love right back out to those who also know the pain of such a loss. We are lucky to have known such connection and love through our animal companions. ❤️ 🥰. If you want to learn to dance with me, and enjoy the occassional "cat content" while you do, you can check out my patreon page. Lots and lots of prerecorded tutorials and guided practices to do on your won schedule and time. Absolute beginners are very welcome. :) www.patreon.com/cassandrafoxdance Thank you for reading and for your continued kindness. :)

Hello. I am beyond heartbroken to share my dear cat Carlene, aka Queenie, is no longer with us. I am still struggling to find adequate words and still very much feeling consumed with grief. I feel like I have lost my familiar. I had Queenie since she was a bottle kitten that could fit in the palm of my hand. She was a wonderfully weird, & vibrant character, equal parts insistently independent and luxuriously loving. She was the spark of our household that just somehow seemed to bring everything to life. I was initially fostering her trying to find her a home but after 3 failed attempts it was clear to me I was keeping her and she was meant to be a part of my family. My other half often said she was just a cat version of me, or maybe I was just the human version of her. Whatever it was, we just got along. She welcomed my son Felix into our lives with so much love and care. I remember when it seemed like one day she just claimed him, as he was upset in his crib and I was there trying to sooth him and she just came trotting into the room, jumped into his crib and started purring up against him. He calmed right down. She genuinely seemed to enjoy his company and would soothe him, play with him, rest with him, and come for walks with us. I was asked often how I trained her to walk with us, and the truth was I never trained her to do anything. Whatever she did she did because she wanted to. She was simply given the chance and the love to be exactly who she was. And who she was just happened to be brilliant. She was so woven into our daily lives that its hard not to feel entirely unraveled by her absence. While no time would ever feel like enough, and I feel like we deserved far more time, I am profoundly grateful for the time that we did get, and that I was fortunate enough to know and love a cat like my Carlene. All my love my special girl, thanks for all the dances, and all the amazing memories ❤ Rest Well my Queenie ❤ Carlene "Queenie" Bean March 2017 to June 2023 If you want to honour Carlene and are in a position to do so, please consider donating to your local cat shelter, like @furryfriendsshelter or adopting a cat in need of a home 💜

New costume, classic drum solo, and a hint of sunburn. 😅☺️ Drum solo is "Rannet Al Tabla" by Fathi Gamar I finally finished 2 costumes that fit and here is one of them! I posted the full story of my path to getting new costumes made while trying to balance motherhood to a toddler and everything else on my Facebook page because Instagram thinks I am too long winded lol and would have cut off my caption. So Instagram gets the Cliff's Notes; Since having my son my body has changed and none of my entire costume rotation (which I had all made myself) fit anymore. Even with conditioning now, it doesn't seem like the bras of my prior me-made costumes will ever fit again, although in good news it appears that the belts and skirts will.  Win some, lose some lol. It was really hard figuring out sizing for my new body especially with knowing making the costumes would take months and during those months I would be working on my dance conditioning. I had to guess end sizing and I guessed wrong and ended up with too big a belt and too small of a bra and had to entirely redo the bra and had to alter the belt. It was demoralizing, frustrating, and it just straight up made me sad. But I had to feel my feelings, pick myself back up and keep going, bit by bit. I feel such a sense of accomplishment now. I had doubted if I could even manage to do it but here I am now on the other side and I DID do it❤ In early months post partum I remember feeling so far from myself, so far from my goals, like I was adrift in a fog. In hindsight I wish I had of been kinder to myself in those early months and shown myself more patience. I was always going to get to where I was going it just might have been slower than I initially anticipated but thats the pace I needed for myself & my family and it's the pace that got me to where I am now. :) Thanks for reading :) You can learn to dance with me, step by step, slowly as you would like, on my Patreon www.patreon.com/cassandrafoxdance You can also learn to slowly sew a super fun Fringe Belt on there (the belt tutorials are available on all 3 dance tiers). Have a great day😊 #bellydance #drumsolo #dancecostume #sewing #postpartum

Hello! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Drum solo is "Atouta" by Sayed Balaha @sayedbalaha1949 While I didn't get a chance to post anything yesterday for International Belly Dance Day, I did get to some time to actually do some dancing, finally. It had been a couple weeks since I have been able to get a dedicated hour or so to actually practice. So I thought I would share some dancing that I did do on International Belly Dance Day on Mother's Day lol cause its the best I can do right now lol. I think one of the biggest things I have I have felt deeply in new motherhood is that you simultaneously feel like you are trying to do it all, but feeling like you can't do it all, all whilst felling like that no matter what you do, you aren't doing enough. 😅😵‍💫 It can be overwhelming and we can find ourselves feeling defeated more often than we would like. So as a reminder to others who can relate, I know it doesn't feel like it a lot of the time but you are doing great❤ I am so grateful to be a mom and grateful for dance. Both help me to just enjoy the moment and be present. Both have helped me gain love and appreciation for my body, and both have helped me to grow as a person (and grow a person for that matter 🤣😅) So with that I wish you happy dancing, I wish you a peaceful and pleasant Mother's Day, and I wish you the capacity to show yourself some more kindness and grace as we navigate our lives. If you want to learn to dance with me, or learn to make a fringe belt like mine here, or just support my dancing, there are many tutorials and guided practices on my patreon www.patreon.com/cassandrafoxdance Thank you for reading 🥰 Dress and belt made by me. *I do not make stuff to sell currently and can't see that changing within the next year. If/when it does change I will post about it. But if you really want a belt like mine, you can *Captain Picard voice* "Make it sew" by doing the belt tutorials on my patreon and making one yourself. The belt tutorials are available on all dance tiers soooo you can shimmy and sew much more ;) #bellydancer #bellydance #drumsolo #tablasolo #sayedbalaha #atouta #cassandrafox #dancingmom #momdance #mombod

Happy International Dance Day! TLDR: Another long dance video and long caption. 😅🤣😉🤷‍♀️ Decided for International Dance Day I would share a favourite from one of my practice sessions back in March. I recently came across this live version of "Kolak Agebny" by Abdel Basset Hamouda and fell in love. He made me feel like I was there while it was being performed. I love it's energy, how it ebs and flows, and it's longer length. Initially in my earlier years, I was intimidated by longer songs, but the plot twist was I now love them. They give you the opportunity to really dig into the song and get creative and play. They help teach you to pace yourself and to be ever present in the moment. They remind you we really don't need to be in a rush. They help you develop your dancecraft and your stamina. In such a fast paced world and an internet full of short clips, some only seconds long, and how do you engage people with 1 song for 6.5 minutes? Truth is I don't expect to keep most engaged with a video like this, and I understand and appreciate many dont have the time or interest to watch a dance video of this length (which is very fair, no judgement or shame, I get it 😊❤) I'm sharing it today because it's a day to celebrate dance and I wanted to share a song that I enjoyed dancing to immensely. Thank you for being here, for your kindness and support and for reading. Hope you enjoy this video and are inspired to dance yourself. 💃🏻 If you are "dance curious" and  want to learn to dance with me, you can find many classes, tutorials and folllw along practices on my patreon www.patreon.com/cassandrafoxdance No prior dance experience required :) Dress and belt made by me ... and you can learn to make a belt exactly like this on my patreon as well ... no sewing experience required the tutorials are slow paced and thorough,  however patience is required ... and possibly a thimble ;)

Hello! Here is a little clip of Felix hanging out with me during a little practice time. (Instagram won't let me post long clips anymore? !?! Not sure why but if you want to see the whole video it is posted on my Facebook page😊). I didn't realize he had been playing "PeekaBoo" until I was reviewing the video days later lol. 😳 😅 Practice is never perfect and these days its often short or interrupted, or hard to get the focus that I was used to. I am still trying to get the hang of finding some balance 🙃 🙂 It's challenging but it's so fun and I am delighted to get to experience such things with my son, so I thought I would share this one with you. Dress, belt, Felix's shirt and overalls, and Felix himself made by me 😅😉 Dress, belt, and Felix are self drafted Felix's shirt and overalls are both my Oh Me Oh My Patterns. @ohmeohmysewing You can learn how to dance and how to make a fabulous Fringe Belt just like that on my Patreon page. And while I don't have tutorials for how to make a baby specifically, I have been told dancing can help with the process. 😅😉🤣 www.patreon.com/cassandrafoxdance Prior dance and sewing experience not required. Thanks for watching and for the continued kindness and support. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend :) Drumsolo is "Hamada" by Sayed Balaha Fabric for Felix's overalls from @loiseaufabrics and hos shirt from @bibsandbootsfabric :) I think those tractors are now sold out now but they just got new tractor 🚜 fabric that is super cute. 👌
