23 years ago a twenty-four-year-old bride-to-be walked into the Manhasset Long Island @crateandbarrel with her mama at her side to register for glassware and tabletop for her wedding. Who could ever have imagined that the marriage of food and design, and setting the table, would be the catalyst to set my career ablaze? And furthermore, never in my wildest dreams could anyone have predicted a comprehensive 137-piece tabletop, décor, and furniture collection with that very brand. I mean, whaaat?!? Honestly, this has been the craziest ride. To say I am bursting with excitement and beaming with pride doesn’t even come close to the gratitude I am feeling. So many brilliant minds came together over the past two years to make this collection a reality—THANK YOU to the entire CB team and to my exceptional (and nimble) internal teams. I am filled to the brim with emotion for all the lessons, growth, and support. What I love most, is that many pieces within the tabletop collection spawned from those very wedding registry items over two decades ago. A full circle moment indeed. Pinch me! I have always been led by design. Driven by an innate curiosity, I lean into spontaneity, embrace failure, and most importantly trust my eye to allow a room, a home to unfold as it wants to. This intuitive process really informed the design of my Brooklyn Townhouse. I had been itching to get my hands on a project that scared me a little and boy, did the gut renovation of this late 1800s Greek Revival challenge and stretch me in ways I never could have anticipated. Reflecting on these after/before images of the homes most iconic spaces revealed to me that this home has also been my greatest teacher. It has strengthened my architecture and design muscles. It forced me to problem-solve and step out of my comfort zone. Without a doubt, this home is my design epic, my masterpiece, second only to being my family’s sanctuary. It helped me understand what I was drawn to, gave me confidence, and allowed me to define what I love about design, what excites me most, and how I want to live in my spaces. Yes, this home has given me so much over the years but perhaps the most exhilarating part of my Brooklyn journey has been sharing it with all of you—the EyeSwoon community! Your response to my home has truly blown me away and I can’t thank you enough for your endless support and kindness. This home holds a jewel box of memories. It is where we raised a family. It is where we fostered love and laughter. It is where I dreamed and set intentions. It was a fertile place for ideation and execution. It is where I built a career. It became my canvas, a place to expand and workshop my point of view in design. It’s where I took risks in the kitchen and where I developed countless recipes. It was a revolving place of creation. It’s where I gathered around beautiful tablescapes and shared a meal with those I love. It’s where I wrote and launched not one, but two books! It’s where I collaborated with some of the most talented people I know—people who became my closest friends. It’s where I built a team and found my community. It’s where the sweetest puppy entered our lives and ended up saving a life. It’s where teenage rebellion and first drunken nights ensued. It’s where Christmas Day turned into a casino with boisterous laughter that will echo in my heart forever. This home held so much. Offered so much. Each and every memory is padlocked in me forever. HOME is family. Family is HOME. But as many of you know, I’m in constant pursuit of evolution and it was time to sell my dream home. And yes, get a little uncomfortable in order to find our next one. Remember those sweet strawberries I picked up from the farm stand earlier this week? Well here’s how I used them. This strawberry burrata salad has all the flavor tenets I look for in any dish: something seasonal, spicy & sweet, tangy or briny, textural, fresh & vibrant, and an allium, always! Adding Serranos might seem surprising to some, but it really is the crowning element of this dish—you just have to trust me! Head to the link in bio for the full recipe!

I so often talk about process, particularly the building blocks of design. I always love to identify that first point of inspiration and how a particular piece led you on your way, identifying a design dialog. Well, if I apply that same thought process to my sense of fashion and what piece was the bedrock that laid the foundation for my style, it would be these very Chloé pants. They were my first ever high-fashion purchase. The year? 1999. The moment? Stella McCartney wearing these very pants at a Chloé store opening next to Phoebe Philo.  Of course, at the time, I had no idea these pants were a moment in fashion. I just happened to love the low waistline and elegant stripe down the leg. Prior to this, I mostly dressed in an Audrey Hepburn style with cropped black pants, a boatneck tee, and ballet flats but this look, these pants, became the very thing that set my new style on its way. I also experienced my own surreal fashion moments in these pants. One which I will never forget is when I wore them to Madonna’s house in Miami for the New Year Millennium of 2000. As I walked into her home and sat beside her on the floor, she commented on my pants, further cementing ”THE PANTS” into iconic territory in my mind. I think that might have been the last time I wore them until last week, when I pulled them out of storage. Well, 24 years later I wore them again and they felt just as sexy as they did in 1999.  Anyway, what a fun trip down memory lane. I have been playing out so many of these early memories in my mind lately, perhaps I will share more with you! In the same way I believe memories are captured within the objects in our homes, and scent can transport us back to a time and place, I might argue that fashion can do the same thing. I am constantly finding and creating beauty at home and one of the places I keep coming back to is nature. A few clippings, twigs, or stems in a vase are incredibly transformative and can make a space come alive, instantly. In these final weeks of spring, I encourage you to head to the flower market or better yet, grab some clippers and forage for some stylish stems to bring the outside in. Each June I find myself in awe of the deliciousness of my first plumply sweet strawberry at the peak of the season.  And while I savor each bite on the drive home from the farm stand (because truthfully they don’t need anything at all) I love to use these uber ripe spring gems in a simple salad.  Any guesses on how I’ll prepare one of my fave strawberry salads? I will be sharing this weekend! dress: @sir__
