On Friday, 3rd December 2021, the Cayman Islands Coast Guard had the pleasure of hosting the members of the Cayman Islands Seafarers Association. It was truly an afternoon to remember! As we close this year by giving thanks for all that our country has been blessed with; we only saw it fitting to show appreciation and pay tribute to the sailors who came before us. -And what better way to do so than having some good ole Caymanian food and sweet swanky!? The Seafarers danced, had informative tours of our vessels and an opportunity to mix and mingle ( within COVID-19 regulations of course 🤞🏽😁) with our newly appointed officers. Also in attendance were : H.E. The Governor of the Cayman Islands Mr. Martyn Roper, Minister of Heritage & Culture Hon. Bernie Bush, Chief Officer/Commissioner of Police Mr. Derek Byrne, Chief Officer Mr. Micheal Ebanks and his Deputy Mr. Julian Lewis of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Senior Policy Advisor for Social Development Mrs Deborah Webb-Sibblies, Acting Fire Chief Mr. Ricardo Charlton, Deputy Fire Chief Mr. Brevon Elliott, CIFS Divisional Chief Mr. Randy Rankine, Mr. Joseph Woods, Clinton Jackson and Roylee Moore from Port Authority and last but certainly not least Lieutenant Colonel Errol Brathwaite of the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps. To all who contributed to our evening, a heartfelt thank you! Special thank you to (@virtualbbae) for providing us with some of the most delicious Caymanian cuisine! Also, another massive thank you to (@jimmeh345) for entertaining us with your sweet steel pan during the earlier parts of our evening. Today, 11th November at 11:00am the Cayman Islands Coast Guard along with the rest of the British Commonwealth observed a moment of silence in honour of those persons who have made the ultimate sacrifice in various conflicts since 1914

Over the past two weeks the Cayman Islands Coast Guard has been undergoing training from instructors from @safeboats on the proper use and maintenance of its newest vessel. This vessel, a 44ft Special Purpose Vessel, can be used in a variety of roles, but her primary function will be offshore night-time patrols and SAR response. The vessel has been named Protector II in honour of her predecessor who had a very long and distinguished history during its service with the RCIPS Joint Marine Unit. We look forward to utilizing this vessel’s full capabilities in order to maintain our commitment to saving lives and protecting our borders.

Lives their a soul, that be their mood so glum, or their day so gray, the sight of Our Flag, unfurled and blowing in the wind, cannot stir the emotions, and bring with it a sense of pride and a smile to one’s face. I think not!

The Cayman Islands Coast Guard would like to express our gratitude to all of the persons who assisted in both the Search & Rescue on the 12th October and the Search & Recovery on the 13th October. On Monday 11th October 2021, the Cayman Islands Coast Guard responded to a report of a missing person who had fallen overboard from a vessel crossing the North Sound. Over the following two days (12th & 13th) the search continued, ending with the detection and subsequent recovery of the missing man on the 13th. While not the outcome we would have like, the recovery of the missing man allowed for a degree of closure for his friends and family, and this would not have been possible without the collaboration and constant support offered by the various government agencies and community volunteers who participated.

The Cayman Islands Coast Guard will be resuming it search this morning at 0600 HRS (Wednesday 13th October)for man who has been missing since Monday, 11 October at around 7:20 PM. Members of the public who are willing to assist are asked to contact the CICG Operations & Rescue Coordinations Centre at 345-649-6722 to provide their contact details. While all offers of assistance are deeply appreciated, persons whose vessels are equipped with a marine VHF radio, or who have access to a marine VHF handheld radio are preferred as these devices make search coordination much easier and reduce the risk of accidents between persons assisting with the search. The Search is being coordinated on VHF channel 24 and any person joining the search is asked to contact the operation center. The radio call sign for the operations center is “Coast Guard Base”

All vessels transversing in the North Sound, from starfish point to Governors Harbor, please proceed with caution as there is a man overboard. We ask for all vessels to be vigilant and proceed with caution in this area. Any boat owner/operator who is interested in assisting, and who has a Maine VHF Radio onboard their vessel, is asked to contact the Cayman Islands Coast Guard Operations & Rescue Coordination Center (ORCC) at 936-6722, tomorrow morning after 6:30 AM.

Coast Guard maintains a presence on Sundays to ensure the safety of boaters on one of the busiest boating days of the week. The CICG would like to remind boaters about the importance of boating safety, and to keep their music at a level that is not a disturbance to home owners or other boaters who are out enjoying a lovely Sunday outing on our beautiful waters. #ifyoudrinkdontoperate #cicoastguard
