Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, a name that will always be close to all Bengalis hearts, a name that will ring through our ears whenever the radio tunes in songs like ‘Shob Kota Janala Khule Dao Na’, ‘O Majhi Nao Chaira De’, ‘Shei Railiner Dhare’, and ‘Sundor Suborno Tarunno Labonyo’, and the name we’ll always cherish every time the musical redemption of the Liberation War of 1971 will be mentioned. Born on the 1st of January of 1956, Bulbul would make groundbreaking history as a musician and would live on to make a legacy of his name with his phenomenal musical composition. While he was attending West End High School, at the mere age of 15, Bulbul along with some of his friends joined the Mukti Bahini base in the neighborhood of Zinzira situated in the Keraniganj Upazila of Dhaka District. He turned out to be an active freedom fighter, taking part in the war in Dhaka city and also It's neighboring areas; undergoing some training in India as well. It was in October of the year 1971, that he was taken hostage by occupation forces and retained in jail in Bhramanbaria, suffering from cruel torture. They later took him, along with fouth others, to a local associate’s home, from where they escaped two days later. Despite all these, Bulbul was headstrong, and although his career as a musician made an appearance when he began making music as a teenager back in the 1960s, it wasn’t until seven years after the war did he get recognition in Dhallywood after he got the opportunity to work as a music director for the film ‘Megli Bijli Badal’ back in 1978—before that he played the guitar at the Hotel Sheraton to support himself, and formed a band called ‘Aftermath’. During the 1980s, he began making patriotic songs for BTV, of which ‘Shob Kota Janala’, one of his famous compositions sung by Sabina Yasmin was aired for eight years before the morning national news. Throughout his career after that, Bulbul will compose songs for over 350 films, being a lyricist to most of them. Story continue in comment section:
