Our new Adelaide City Dymocks bookstore has been opened in the old Regents Theatre complex, and what a breathtaking change it is. You may remember that last year I posted photos of the closing down sale at the old premise. I was very sad because I enjoyed the old place with its two narrow storeys, and nobody seemed certain whether Dymocks would ever re-open in the city centre itself. It appeared very much as if a fatal blow had been dealt to the main artery of physical books in Adelaide. But it's always too soon to mourn. I love this metamorphosis of another former city former icon. (For I do remember going to see movies there back in the day.) Now it's a classical twist for the books with a fresh and spacious atmosphere. I don't know if a bookshop can be a phoenix, but it sure feels as if this new look Dymocks has risen from the ashes 🔥📚

"Ask me not if God exists, but why he's such a prick." So openeth this weighty missive, and if that already has you reaching for your pearls, you're gonna wanna strap 'em on tight and cling for dear life, or step far far away from this book like you're a vampire and it is hallowed ground (/vice versa?). Emily's billing: The Bible meets Game of Thrones. I feel like all the obvious words to describe this book have already been done to death - "epic", "masterpiece", "magnus opum", "really fucking good" etc. So if I had to sum up this book in one word, I would go with - unapologetic. This is a book that has no qualms being brazenly exactly what it wants to be, and you can like it or you can kiss its shiny metal 🤘 ass. This book will not be everyone's cup of tea. But if you're more of a bourbon and coke kinda soul, this is straight off the top shelf. This is definitely a dark book. The whole thing is set in a world after an event called "daysdeath" when the world became dark enough all day for monsters to walk freely, so when I say dark, it's quite literally dark the whole 700+ pages. It is gruesomely gory, brutal, and bleak. The worldbuilding overall was interesting and unique, and absolutely adds a whole new take to the vampire genre that I thought was really well done.  There are very strong themes of religion and faith (and the questioning of such). This book is essentially a parabolic exploration of human faith, especially in the face of suffering, and as someone out the other side of a cultishly religious childhood, I found the reading of it practically cathartic (feeling seen carries its own magic). [Swipe images for middle of review] I think you'll know pretty quickly whether this book is for you or not. If you already know you can't handle a bit of blood and blasphemy, then it's definitely not. If you don't want to commit to a HUGE story, it's really not. On finishing, I said to someone: "I feel like I just read the biggest first chapter ever!" This story is far from over. But it's hands down one of my most enjoyed reads ever. Now to wait for the next part of the story, with something that has never been a virtue I naturally possess.... patience.

Also, speaking of love, I am obsessed with the fact that there is now an entire section in Dymocks dedicated to the most fabulous genre ever- Romance!💋In my humble opinion, one can never have enough romance novels on their shelves ❤️

It’s possible to look forward to the horizon while mourning what you’ve lost.” ⏳🏰Everless and evermore review 🐍🦊 Everless reveals a captivating world where blood is money, time is power and desire is treachery. This book is full of mystery and there were times when I could not understand what the answers could be and how the characters involved were connected, then a huge plot twist made all the answers crystal clear. I love the whole plot with the Alchemist and the Sorceress and this is the main part of Evermore. I love how Sara Holland shows readers the character’s past memories, past lives and as us and the characters learn more about their past, we discover the mysteries of the present. Jules who is the main character, goes through a large amount of character development throughout the two books and it is amazing to see how she continues to grow and becomes what she needs to be to achieve her goal (which I won’t say so I don’t spoil it)🤫😄 The Alchemist and The Sorceress are very complex and interesting characters and I loved learning the truths of their story. I really like the ending of Evermore and it ended the stories of Jules, Ina, Liam, the Sorceress and the Alchemist perfectly. It is also great how the ending wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. Silver Buttons is just more classic Bob Graham goodness. I know I have said I love his books, but this one really melts my heart. It tells the story of what happens in the world whilst a baby is inside taking his very first steps. People love to pay me.     10. I magnetize others into my world with confidence and conviction. I easily attract those who need what I have to give. My work changes lives. My presence changes lives.
