The second cheetah kill in the Zambeze Delta. This kill was also a reedbuck, just like the first kill and it was from the Liwonde female cheetah. What is really interesting is how the Liwonde female has hidden her kill as you can see it is barely recognizable under all the grass - A very clever cat indeed!!! #cabelafamilyfoundation #wildlife #conservation #itsworthsaving #wildlifeconservation #bigcatsconservation #cheetah #cheetahsofinstagram #bigcatsofinstagram #mozambique #zambezedeltaconservation #ICWCA #africanparks #goodnews #africanwildlife #africa #bigcats #translocation #protectwildlife

After nearly 2 years of zero poaching incidence to report on our lions, one of our pride males were caught in a poachers Gin trap. Male lions patrol there territories and cover vast areas which by nature makes them far more susceptible to poaching. Fortunately he is collared with a GPS collar and Willem picked up on the fact that he wasn’t moving most likely the day after it happened. The team was mobilized and the trap removed. Now 2 weeks have past and remarkably he is back with his pride and walking well on his foot. It was without doubt a lucky escape. Poaching as always can never be sustainable and as is so aptly shown here is totally non selective. #24lions #ZDC #mozambique #cabelas #lions #lion #wildlife #conservation #wildlifeconservation #wildlifevideos #wildlifeconservation #ig_africa #wildlife_supreme #bigcats #twentyfourlions #lion #bigcatconservation #savethebigcats #exploreafrica #Africa #africananimals #africannight #lionroar

Spring has sprung in the Zambeze Delta and with it the temperatures are slowly rising. Exciting times in the Zambezi Delta 😁 The first recorded kill by the cheetahs, and it is a a reedbuck kill from the Dinokeng female. On a side note, meet Tamar Kendon, she is a Wildlife Biologist who is assisting with the initial monitoring process of the cheetah project. Additionally, if you scroll to the next picture you will see the three students from Biofund - Menaice Zunguze, Williamo Daniel and Mateus Alberto. They have completed an undergraduate degree in Conservation/Natural resource management/Forestry in Mozambique and are with us for the next 3 months. It has been great having them on board to learn and help us monitor the progress of our wildlife in the Zambezi Delta. #cabelafamilyfoundation #wildlife #conservation #itsworthsaving #wildlifeconservation #bigcatsconservation #cheetah #cheetahsofinstagram #bigcatsofinstagram #mozambique #zambezedeltaconservation #ICWCA #africanparks #goodnews #africanwildlife #africa #bigcats #translocation #protectwildlife

Pangolins are said to be the most trafficked endangered animal in the world today. Having just one young at a time they don’t bounce back easily from over exploitation. Pangolin sightings in Coutada 11 now happen frequently, seeing an immature animal is sure sign our conservation and Anti poaching program is working well. #CBEO #DSCF #DSC #conservation #ZambezeDelta #IvanCarter #Dancabela #antipoaching #ForWildlifeRangers #Trainlikearanger #HSCF #ZDC #wildlife #wildlifeconservation #wildlifeprotection #wildlife_aroundworld #wildlifeshots #wildlifetrust #wildlifeofafrica #conservationeducation #conservationmatters #animalconservation #africa #africawildlife #bigcatsforever #pangolins #antipoaching #wildliferangers #Mozambique #rangers

The cheetahs have been released from the bomas and now walk free in the Zambezi Delta ecosystem were they have been extinct for over 100 years! 🐾 This would not have been possible without a team of extremely committed and passionate people - Thank you to the @cabelafamilyfoundation who supported and funded the repopulation of cheetahs into the area, alongside @ivan.carter Wildlife Conservation Alliance. None of this would be possible without the tireless work of Vincent van der Merwe of @endangeredwildlifetrust to pull this all together. Thank you to all who have participated and supported this move - one that potentially increases the Metapopulation area by over 30% - a very special Conservation thank you to @africanparksnetwork and @ashia_cheetah_conservation and @pilansberg_ who very generously donated cats to this project - stay tuned for more to come on their progress and how they are getting on in their new home...🐆 #cabelafamilyfoundation #wildlife #conservation #itsworthsaving #wildlifeconservation #bigcatsconservation #cheetah #cheetahsofinstagram #bigcatsofinstagram #mozambique #zambezedeltaconservation #ICWCA #africanparks #goodnews #africanwildlife #africa #bigcats #translocation #protectwildlife

One of the Zambeze Delta research hives we use to monitor honey flows. This is an Australian Flow hive which enables one to extract the honey without removing the frames. Our community bee keeping program is just one of our projects that helps our local villagers to help themselves and give them solid alternatives to the bush meat trade. #CBEO #SCI #DanCabela #DSCF #DSC #community #beekeeping #coutada11 #zambezedelta #ICWCA

Our beloved Mary Cabela with Lion Researcher and Scientist, @williemd_bl 🦁 They collared this lion in July. Mary’s fascination with lions runs deep - she loves lions because she has spent a great deal of time in Africa with her late husband, Dick, and they tried to see lions from the African point of view as well as from the mostly oversimplified, romanticized western point of view. They learned through spending time where lion’s roamed to appreciate the lion for simply being a lion. For this reason, it is fitting the @Cabelafamilyfoundation’s first big conservation effort included lions, because like it or not, both Mary and Dick saw themselves in the lion—the good and the bad, for what it was, for what they hoped it could be. But they also saw the lion as more important than all its legend. They understood that the lion’s the wildness, freedom, and savagery, are honest reflections of our own humanity. We need the lion to remind us we are still an important part of nature. We are so grateful for the continuous support given by Mary and the @cabelafamilyfoundation for the 24 Lion Project #24lions #ZDC #mozambique #cabelas #lions #lion #wildlife #conservation #wildlifeconservation #wildlifevideos #wildlifeconservation #ig_africa #wildlife_supreme #bigcats #twentyfourlions #lion #bigcatconservation #savethebigcats #exploreafrica #Africa #africananimals #africannight #lionroar

Coutada 11 is well known for its huge warthog population. This is an indicator species for us. Having very small territories and typically using the same path every day they are easy to poach. In 1994 we seldom saw a warthog, today its not unusual to see hundreds every day, a sure sign that the ZDS APU is on top of its game. Warthog are still the prey species of choice for our lions. We would expect as the prides grow so too will the size of the prey. #CBEO #DanCabela #DSC #DSCF #SCI #ICWCA #SCI #Conservation #Coutada11 #AntiPoaching #ZambezeDelta

Did we mention the cheetahs love to eat? It is incredible that soon these wonderful cats will, once again, walk free in the Zambeze Delta. With 11 cheetah in our Boma’s, we are all excited for the release this week. From all of us at Zambeze Delta Conservation, a huge thank you to the @Cabelafamilyfoundation for doing so much for our conservation and in partnering with us in this amazing project to return the Zambeze Delta to its former glory. #cabelafamilyfoundation #wildlife #conservation #itsworthsaving #wildlifeconservation #bigcatsconservation #cheetah #cheetahsofinstagram #bigcatsofinstagram #mozambique #zambezedeltaconservation #ICWCA #africanparks #goodnews #africanwildlife #africa #bigcats #translocation #protectwildlife
