Ape Action Africa

One of the best ways you can support our gorillas this week 💚🌿 #BuyAGorillaADinner2023 Gorillas can live for up to 50 years, so we have a long-term commitment to them. You can help us take care of them by sponsoring one of our orphans and becoming involved in their lives with regular updates and watching them grow into their new family group 🤗 By sponsoring a gorilla, you can get directly involved in conservation and make a tangible difference to the primates in our care. Our sponsorships can be a wonderful gift for the primate lover in your life, or for the price equivalent of ONE cup of coffee a month you can choose the gorilla you have the best connection to and make a difference to their lives 🙌 ➡️ Link in Bio! #ApeActionAfrica #sponsor #donation #adoptions #NotAPet #primates #gorilla #gorillas #giftideas #conservation #sanctuary #rescue #greatapes

⬇️ Add your name to the list ⬇️ Our partners at 'Friends of Ape Action Africa' have written a letter to be sent to the CEOs of Meta (Facebook & Instagram), Google and YouTube calling on them to implement greater scrutiny of ads, pictures and videos shared on their platforms. Add your name by going to the link below/in our bio and show your support for our cause 🫵 Sign the letter! ➡️ http://friendsofapeactionafrica.org/letter.html Tag a friend, Like, Comment and Share! The more people who sign the letter, the more we will be able to show the CEOs how important this issue is, and that their customers will not stand for it! It’s #ThrowbackThursday, & we have some Jackie pics from the archives! These pictures are from 2018, when Jackie arrived at Mefou after being transferred from our fellow sanctuary @LimbeWildlifeCentre 🧡 As a baby, Jackie lost her whole family to poachers and was surrendered to a man who tried to care for the orphan. However, chimpanzees are wild animals, and #NotPets, so as Jackie grew up, he was no longer able to manage her. She was caged up and often deprived of any interaction with members of her own species 💔 On her arrival at Ape Action Africa, after being rescued, Jackie was introduced to Song's group. The integration took a lot of time and patience but as you can see from the photos, she learned to socialise and integrated with her group. Now, she is a happy and healthy member of the group & loves to play and groom with the other chimps 🤗 📷 Ape Action Africa #rescue #chimps #conservation #primates #primateconservation #ApeActionAfrica #TBThursday #TBT #NotAPet #chimp #chimps #chimpanzee #throwback #greatapes #happyending

❤️ Sponsor Doumassi!❤️ At six years old, Doumassi was separated from her family and was found wandering into the village of Doumassi (hence her name!) in the south of Cameroon. She was brought to Mefou as staying in such a heavily populated area like that could bring her harm. Being at the sanctuary has given her the chance to find a new family and form special bonds with her gorilla group mates 🤗 Sponsoring one of our apes is one of the best ways you can support our work, and it makes a great gift! For just £35 for the year (equal to £2.95 a month!) you will receive a certificate, biography + photo of your sponsored ape and regular updates ➡️ link in bio! 📷Ape Action Africa / Jo Gaweda #ApeActionAfrica #sponsor #donation #adoptions #NotAPet #primates #conservation #sanctuary #rescue #greatapes #gorilla #gorillas #wildlife #animals #animalsofinstagram #Cameroon

Action Shot! 🤕🤣 It’s all good fun for Parry + Mbailassem, even if it looks a tad threatening 🫣 Parry is the larger male, and Mbailassem is the smaller gorilla. Play fighting is an important aspect of a gorilla’s development, allowing them to hone their social skills, get to know their group mates & practice their fighting tactics for if they ever need to face off with another male. Actual fights are very rare in gorilla groups and tend to only occur when two separate groups meet. Because of their big teeth & strong muscles, a fight can mean death, so individuals will only fight if they absolutely have to. Instead, they will beat their chests & hoot to intimidate their opponent and that tends to resolve most rivalries #TheMoreYouKnow #FunFacts 📷Ape Action Africa / Jo Gaweda #ApeActionAfrica #sponsor #donation #adoptions #NotAPet #primates #conservation #sanctuary #rescue #greatapes #gorilla #gorillas #wildlife #animals #animalsofinstagram #Cameroon #actionshot #animalbehaviour
