"It all started out with this question, how do you improve the performance of something that already works extremely well. The answer is you don’t. We realized it wasn’t about making the insulation itself better, but more about what we can build around it to enhance its natural insulative properties. It was one of those rare moments in time when an idea hits you like Newton’s apple from a completely un-anticipated action. We were messing around with an ice tray, cracked it, turned it over and lifted up the tray. What was nicely laid out before us was the blueprint for what WarmCube would become, and of course, it’s names sake. I imagined the down-filled cubes surrounded by channels that would trap even more air. This feature mimics what a gridded back fleece achieves. To take things a step further I bricked the pattern to block airflow even more creating a truly unique air trapping system, surpassing anything else the market has seen." We have a new Marmot Club Blog! During this pandemic, opportunities to grow community has taken a hit for us all. The @kayaclimbing app brings people together. KAYA was created to be the digital home of the climbing community. You can track all your climbs on the app, share beta, create circuits and tick lists, or simply connect with the climbing world, especially now when we are a little bit more separated from each other. Not only is KAYA creating a virtual community, but they are incredibly active supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the outdoors and climbing. The blog highlights Unlockdown League, the first of many interactive climbing leagues created by KAYA with plenty more on the horizon. So, here's the thing about a little mountain called Broken Top. Situated just 30 miles from Bend, Oregon is the trail that leads to this glacially eroded complex stratovolcano...say that 10 times fast. "How luxurious can winter camping really be? We left the snowmobiles at the wilderness boundary and skinned in with an embarrassing amount of gear: three packs per person, some not containing a single ounce of technical gear, instead packed with a nuclear bunker’s supply of IPA. After a bit of searching, we chose the perfect spot for base camp, Broken Top looming right in front of us. We erected the cavernous expedition tent, snapped together our sleeping tents, and went about digging a massive fire pit out of the deep snowpack. After all the logistics of the day, there wouldn't be enough daylight for an evening tour, so we spent our time carving perfect benches in the pit, and cracking into our libations ahead of schedule. As the sunset, it was time to fire up the (wait for it) portable grill. The temperature fell and we bundled up in our lofty puffies. Gathered in the pit around a crackling fire with freshly grilled sausages and hoppy beers in hand, we shared stories as the night sky fell over us, and the stars twinkled into view one by one. Marmot Mountain Club Ambassador @kevinapereira does not mess around when it comes to camp stove dinners. What's his fuel? DUTCH OVEN NACHOS 🤤 This recipe is for a meal for two or appetizer for a group. It’s fully customizable and easy to make! All you need is a dutch oven or deep skillet with a lid. Ingredients: • 1 bag tortilla chips • 2 cups shredded cheese of your choice • 1 can black beans • 1 can spicy tomato sauce or equivalent (we use El Pato hot tomato sauce) • 4-5 Green onions • 1-2 avocados, diced • Handful of cilantro leaves • 1 tbsp cooking oil Directions: Lightly oil the bottom of your dutch oven or skillet with a small amount of cooking oil to prevent your nachos from sticking. Add a layer of 1/3 tortilla chips and top it with 1/3 can beans, tomato sauce, cheese, and a handful od onion, avocado, and cilantro. Repeat this for 2 more delicious layers. Cover dutch oven and place on metal grill over campfire or stove. Let cook for about 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Then shamelessly indulge in the cheesy deliciousness. *Note: if you are including meat or raw vegetables to your recipe, brown or sautee it before adding it to the dutch oven to ensure its fully cooked. #whatsyourfuel #marmotclubambassador Photo: @kevinapereira
