#REPOST @castellodirivoli • OLAFUR ELIASSON • Friday, June 30, 2023, 8-9:30 pm Castello di Rivoli, Theater On the occasion of the closing days of the exhibition “Olafur Eliasson: Orizzonti tremanti”, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea presents an event dedicated to Olafur Eliasson. This is in the framework of the summer film festival in collaboration with Distretto Cinema “Ever-green: a Planet to Save.” The event will include the international premiere of the trailer of “Orizzonti tremanti (Trembling horizons)”, 2023 (ca. 3’), directed by SHIMURAbros, an artistic duo consisting of Yuka and Kentaro Shimura. Investigating the relationship between light, image, matter, and abstraction, SHIMURAbros also conceives an exceptional series of films taking their cues from Eliasson’s works and exhibitions. They propose an original idea of “works about the works”, where they interpret other artists’ practices. The film Orizzonti tremanti (Trembling horizons), with music by Mamoru, pivots on Eliasson’s works in the homonymous exhibition at Castello di Rivoli. The full version of the film will be screened on a later date at the Museum in conjunction with the release of the exhibition catalogue. Wind H Art Center is honored to announce its first large-scale group exhibition “Night is the Shadow of the Earth” running simultaneously in both Click Ten Art Space and Wind H Art Centre. The exhibition is curated by Xn Office (Penny Dan Xu and Ni Youyu). With 27 artists and artist groups from around the world, this exhibition will present around 50 works featuring a diverse array of media such as sculpture, installation, painting, photography, video, animation, prints, antique and archives. Under the theme of “shadow”, the artists explore the “unknown” and “invisible” in the fields of art, environment, society, psychology, and memory in divergent styles of creation. The exhibition will be held in two venues: Click Ten Art Space and Wind H Art Center. It is worth noting that this exhibition is also the debut of several important artists who played a vital role in modern and contemporary art history, such as Claudio Parmiggiani and Nancy Sheung. SHIMURAbros’ work to date has chiefly dealt with issues of representation in film. Themselves members of a generation that is being constantly bombarded with a myriad of images, SHIMURAbros have made repeated attempts to invent new types of imaging devices with the aim of invoking the innate power of images in novel ways. The present exhibition, entitled Specious Rainbow, is a further development of the duo’s Trace Sky series, which uses optical glass to zoom in on individual scenes from films. By using optical glass to create bolder colours, the works in Specious Rainbow produce a visual experience that enables viewers to roam between reality and imagination via the images projected on the surface of the work. SHIMURAbros will be in attendance at the gallery tomorrow. We look forward to your visit. Reposted from @studioolafureliasson ‘Map for unthought thoughts’ occupies a semicircular space whose long axial wall is covered in mirrors to give the impression that the space is a full circle. At the centre of the room, a slowly rotating light shines from the base of the wall through five curved, concentric fences. Each fence consists of a different arrangement of crossing steel bands; the shadow cast by all the fences taken together forms a fivefold symmetrical pattern on the room’s curved white wall. As visitors pass through the space, their perception of the fences’ alignment shifts. The shadow pattern cast on the wall and the size of the visitors' own shadows undergo constant transformation. The work continues Olafur’s long-standing interest in fivefold symmetry, which first began through his collaboration with Icelandic geometer Einar Thorsteinn. "Time Tunnel – Japan and the Jews" Venue: Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art Date: Until 22 April 2023 (Sat) Curator: Dr. Etty Glass Gissis With Yuki Onodera, Tatsuo Miyajima @tatsuomiyajimastudio , Yasui Nakaji, SHIMURAbros "The exhibition "Time Tunnel – Japan and the Jews" marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Israel. The exhibition focuses on the meeting point between Japan and the Jews through works of art by Japanese artists that relate to the Jewish narrative of rescue and extermination. The rescue story is based on the humane gesture of the Japanese Vice-Consul in Kaunas, Lithuania, Chiune Sugihara, who, in the summer of 1940, issued over two thousand visas to Japan. In this way, Sugihara saved more than six thousand Jews.
