After 16 months of not being able to operate safaris getting back up and operating was quite a process! Our 2021 season was quieter indeed, but to have business of any kind felt like such a blessing. So we gave you a hint about dazzling salt pans not that long ago...and here is a photo of just that! Isn't it beautiful?! What makes this photo even more special was that this area still hadn't had any rain upon our arrival. While we were there though the skies opened up, not only giving us some rain but also putting on some spectacular lightning displays. Trip preparations have begun for our next expedition to the #kgalagadi and a new #walkingsafari product is most certainly on the horizon! We are a tad excited as we hope you will be too. The Kgalagadi is known for its acacia savanna landscapes, rolling red sand dunes and dazzling salt pans. The specific area we will be exploring also boasts the largest free-ranging eland population remaining in Africa!!! How amazing is that? We have timed it just perfectly as a significant portion of the #springbok and #wildebeest populations within the region use this specific area as their calving grounds. We may go on about the #rain a little more than most people you know. We have a good reason to though! With 10 months of non-stop #sunshine , we enjoy a cloud or two together with the accompanying thunderstorm and rain. We have recently had some dramatic and productive storms leaving seasonal ‘pans’ of water scattered over the landscape. On a #safari we just returned from, each of these ‘pans’ were filled and surrounded with a multitude of #bird species, from marabou storks to yellow billed kites. Why are there so many of them? Rain, while short lived here in #botswana , provides eagerly anticipated water to a parched land. Creatures of all shapes and sizes have been ‘hibernating’ underground waiting for the rains to arrive, to emerge and reproduce. Once all the activity begins, a #feast of epic proportions begins with birds as the main attendants. #wildlifephotography #bird_lovers #birdwatching #rainyseason
