❤️❤️❤️ Repost from @craftvictoria • Yaritji Heffernan’s vessels feature circular markings that represent rock holes, where water collects after the rains and an important water source during the dry season. In the desert, water is an essential element and knowledge of rock hole sites is revered and passed from generation to generation by all Pitjantjatjara people. Yaritji Heffernan was born to Pitjantjatjara parents at Mulga Park station near Pukatja/Ernabella. She moved to Adelaide in 2010 and has been practicing at the APY Adelaide Studio since it opened in 2019, where she is an important leader and teacher to the younger artists in their emerging practice. See Manta – Earth in the Atrium until Saturday 27 July. Thrilled to be included in this exhibition with so many amazing artists! Love and gratitude to @sebastiangoldspink and our friends at @hazelhurstartscentre ❤️❤️❤️ • New South: Recent Painting from Southern Australia | Rhoda Tjitayi Rhoda was born in Pukatja in 1969. Rhoda’s grandfather was from Nyapari and grandmother from Makiri, Tjala Minyma Ngura (Honeyant Women’s sacred place). Rhoda is now based in Adelaide and began working at the APY Studio Adelaide in 2019. Rhoda’s exquisite works depict Piltati Tjukurpa, an important cultural story learned from her grandmother. Rhoda remembers visiting her grandmother and sitting with her while she painted. When Rhoda paints she says ‘I am remembering the story she passed on. I am painting this to pass it on to my children. I have learnt this story from my grandmother she put the story in my heart and it’s going out to my grandchildren. When she was painting, she would tell a story and sing.’ Rhoda learnt how to dance and sing from her grandmother and is now teaching her daughter and her family. Rhoda says, ‘I am happy to be painting my grandmother’s story.’ Courtesy of APY Art Centre Collective. New South: Recent painting from Southern Australia continues until Sunday 8 September. Open 10.00am to 4.00pm daily, free admission. Entitled ‘MANGURI - HALO’ the debut solo exhibition by ZAACHARIAHA FIELDING feat
Entitled ‘MANGURI - HALO’ the debut solo exhibition by ZAACHARIAHA FIELDING features a curation of vibrant paintings that reflect the visual language of the artist’s culture. @zaachariahafielding.art explains this latest body of work: “Manguri in the Pitjantjatjara language is a woven ring that sits on the top of the head. Manguri holds the piti (bowl or vessel) that is used to collect food and other items as someone walks through the bush. The Manguri holds the piti in position; stabilises it. Anangu (Aboriginal people from the APY Lands) use Manguri when travelling long distances, to collect things as they travel and hold what they can’t carry just with their hands. Without Manguri, these essential things can’t be collected. For me Manguri or halo is a symbol of knowledge holding, stability/ instability and survival. These are common themes in my life and my visual arts practice.” - Zaachariaha Fielding, May 2024 The exhibition is staged in collaboration with APY Art Centre Collective (@apy_ac_collective) and Arndt Art Agency (@arndtartagency) For further information please DM or write to mail@galerie-grolman.de Artwork caption: Zaachariaha Fielding, 234-23AS, 2024, Acrylic on Belgian Linen, 197 x 182cm; 233-23AS, 2024, Acrylic on Belgian Linen, 195 x 142cm; courtesy of the artist; photo my Sebastian Reuter

A glowing pulse in the Wynne Prize 2024 exhibition
❤️❤️❤️ @artgalleryofnsw ・・・ A glowing pulse in the Wynne Prize 2024 exhibition, enthralling all comers: Zaachariaha Fielding’s ‘Paralpi’ extends the 2023 Prize-winning artist’s ‘Inma’ series. This work depicts sounds – those of Paralpi, a special place found just outside of Mimili on the eastern part of the APY Lands in South Australia. ‘Paralpi is a place where people come to embrace and celebrate children,’ says @zaachariahafielding.art. ‘They are taught by the Elders how to move and mimic their clan emblem, and, for Mimili, this has always been the maku (witchetty grub).’ Fielding’s scratchy application of Pitjantjatjara text as a stylistic element used to outline and define Country also captures reverberations of bodies performing the act of inma (ceremonial song and dance). ‘When this inma is sung, the sounds of the soprano, alto, tenors and baritone are thick, hitting the heart and then returning to the ngura (country),’ Fielding describes. According to Fielding, this is a cyclical process unique to Aṉangu culture, which celebrates one’s interconnectedness with the land. Swipe across to view details of the work, and visit to experience in person. Tickets to the Archibald, Wynne & Sulman Prizes are 2-for-1 on Wednesday nights, and children under 12 have free entry. __ #WynnePrize 2024 finalist Zaachariaha Fielding ‘Paralpi’ © the artist @mimili_maku_arts @apy_ac_collective
