Hello there, October! 👻🎃 This totally means that the end of the year will be here in 0.01 seconds because I feel like time goes October 1 -blink- December 25. Does anyone else agree? It's like a downhill slide to the end of the year!

Evelyn has lost her husband.... and there's not many places he could be. You see, Evelyn's home is a cruise ship. Having lived most of her life on the sea, Evelyn is the wife of retired ship doctor, Mr Henry Parker.... but all of a sudden he's disappeared. She's tried looking for him everywhere. She's waited for him at dinner. She's left him notes. She's checked every place in the ship he'd normally be.. .and he's still not here. But then she misplaces other things too. She's tripping and stumbling. She's heading to dinner in a ballgown when it's actually breakfast. She's forgetting people's names. And now people are saying this is the last cruise? The truth is, Mrs Henry Parker is forgetting everything... and this is her last cruise. It's a story that's funny and heartbreaking all at the one time - and somehow Joanna Nell has once again turned the perils of ageing into a novel full of interesting characters.

#KidsPicks This time my kids book recommendation is a middle grade fiction book! If you've got a kiddo who's too advanced for picture books but not quite ready for novels, this is the perfect pick. My Parents Cancelled My Birthday is a hilarious tale of a birthday wish that goes oh so wrong - and it's the kind of book kids will actually WANT to read (even if they're not a reader!). Tom can't wait for his lucky birthday. It's an epic family tradition and he's dreamed up an unforgettable party! Only, after several disasters involving a flattened Chihuahua and a curse from the tooth fairy, it's been cancelled. But Tom won't give up. With the help of his friends (and a pig painted like a zebra), Tom decides to throw himself the party he deserves. What could possibly go wrong?

Soo, I haven't been posting that many book photos this month because well, I've been distracted. I blame the @officialcricut_anz and our Disneyland holiday (not really blaming though because both of those things are bringing me joy!) soooo it was only natural that the first book I picked up after a little while was Indistractable by Nir Eyal. I'm actually a super nerd. I love knowing how people think, how bodies work, how things work, why we do what we do - so I loved the psychology behind this book. I think we so often blame technology for our trouble concentrating - but as Nir himself found out after a complete technology detox, we're actually kind of wired to be distracted and discontent. I don't want to spoil too much, but if you're someone who has moments where you're wondering if your brain has been swapped with a squirrel - or you're struggling with procrastination.. maybe this book is for you. Here's the blurb. "You sit down at your desk to work on an important project, but a notification on your phone interrupts your morning. Later, as you’re about to get back to work, a colleague taps you on the shoulder to chat. At home, screens get in the way of quality time with your family. Another day goes by, and once again, your most important personal and professional goals are put on hold. What would be possible if you followed through on your best intentions? What if you had the power to become “indistractable?” Eyal lays bare the secret of finally doing what you say you will do with a four-step, research-backed model. Indistractable reveals the key to getting the best out of technology, without letting it get the best of us. Find out Why distraction at work is a symptom of a dysfunctional company culture—and how to fix it What really drives human behavior and why time management is pain management Why your relationships (and your sex life) depend on you becoming indistractable How to raise indistractable children in an increasingly distracting world"

This book has been sitting on my shelf for a little while and this weekend, I decided to read it. The cover and title was creepy - and I was in the mood for a good thriller. Gripping. Clever. Twisty - the cover promised... but let's just say I wasn't a fan of this book. The storyline is... weird - and there's a whole lot of weird themes running through it. Kidnapping, domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, animal abuse- the list goes on and on. Combine that with the fact that the book often felt so long and drawn out and I kind of couldn't wait to put it down 😳  One of those books that goes straight in the donate pile. But then again, this also seems to be one of those books which leaves readers divided. If you look through the Goodreads reviews, you've got two totally different camps. The one star reviewers who like me were really disappointed - and then 3+ stars reviewers who call it the best book of the year/absolutely incredible etc. So I guess my verdict is this; don't judge a book by it's reviews. Read it and see what you think!

#KidsPicks Most of the time Ravi can control his temper but, one day, he lets out the tiger within … Being a tiger is great fun at first – tigers can do ANYTHING they want! But who wants to play with a growling, roaring, noisy, wild tiger who won't share or play nicely? Ravi is about to discover something very important about expressing his feelings and making amends. This book is a perfect one for talking to kids about temper tantrums and learning to express and understand their feelings. It’s the kind of book that teaches an incredible lesson in a fun, easy to read story!
