Throwing it back to hanging out in a fern gully 🌿 this past weekend. ⠀⠀ Cooper goes straight into business mode when we put her backpack on! She knows it’s time to work and is so excited to have a job. Any other pups love to work? 🎒
🏔 Doggo in the wild 🏔 ⠀⠀ We have a couple late nights coming up this weekend so Cooper is headed to her favorite place on earth, @evasplaypups! It’s now, actually, the only place we’ll board Cooper 😅 because we know she has such a great time and gets plenty of exercise rather than being cooped up in a 10x10 room in Brooklyn. ⠀⠀ We’ll be sure to share all of their wonderful photos when she’s there!
☀️ This extended summer weather is giving all of us life. ☀️ ⠀⠀ Spent a lovely summer Sunday morning at Harriman State Park breathing some fresh air and dipping our toes in lake water. Cooper didn’t mind one bit. We even snuck in some recall (checkout that recall face!) , off leash heel, and confidence building too! #nevernottraining
☺️Weekend vibes ☺️ ⠀⠀ Hard to believe it’ll be October this week when it’s this warm out, but we’re not complaining! Hoping this weather holds up for a hike tomorrow morning.
New phone but still 100% that b*tch ⠀⠀ Happy Friday y’all 💃🏻
☺️Big Weekend Mood ☺️ ⠀⠀ Real talk coming up- ⠀⠀ The more I work with dogs (not professionally of course- we just have coop and fosters to base experience off of), the more I realize how absolutely little I knew about dogs when we adopted Cooper. ⠀⠀ This morning at our CSA pickup, we had Cooper holding a down while we grabbed our veggies 10’ away and a teenager went right up to Cooper’s face and started petting her and ruffling her fur. Instinctually, I yelled over “excuse me, please don’t pet her!” And he looked at me as if I had 3 eyes 🤪. ⠀⠀ 4 years ago I probably would’ve thought someone was crazy for scolding me for petting their dog without asking. It’s a dog! Why shouldn’t I be allowed to pet it?🧐 ⠀⠀ Cooper’s a friendly dog. 🐕She was fine with being pet. But we’ve learned that in order to cultivate trust in our relationship, we need to advocate for her boundaries and space. Why should we expect her to listen to us, to trust us, if we don’t show her that we’re looking out for her? ⠀⠀ It’s a small thing- to agree with her sometimes. Like walking out of the path of an oncoming dog, or to not put her in situations where she has to make hard choices (like when a stranger comes up fast and puts his hands on her). And we’re learning more every day how to better advocate for our dog. But the pay off is huge. ⠀⠀ The more trust we build with Cooper, the more we notice she’s more capable of handling the hard situations. She trusts us when we say something is “ok” because, usually, she sees us stick up for her. ⠀⠀ We don’t know everything. We barely know some things. But we’re so proud of the relationship we’re building with this smart, stubborn, silly little dog.
🗣“Mahm. Mahm. Mahm. Hey Mahm. Hey. Hey. MAHM” 🗣 ⠀⠀ Cooper is teaching Cocoa the ways of the Guilt Trip in which I am working on a Friday and she would prefer I were throwing her unicorn toy. ⠀⠀ If you’re interested in adopting cocoa, be sure to check him out this Sunday in union square at @koreank9rescue’s adoption event!
🤪You know how when you live with someone you kinda start to look alike? 🤪 ⠀⠀ Cocoa’s learning all about hanging out outside of coffee shops, taking long walks in the park, and playing with all of Cooper’s toys. Cooper is just trying to sneak into his tiny crate as much as possible. 🤦🏻♀️
Do you think Cocoa’s settling in well? 🧐🧐🧐 ⠀⠀ He’s been really *opening up* these last few days and even started playing with toys and initiating play with Cooper yesterday! He’s obsessed with Cooper’s unicorn toy and could fetch across the hall for hours. ⠀⠀ As he gets more comfortable, Cocoa’s personality is starting to shine through. Despite being rescued from an abuse case, he LOVES his people. He wants to be in whatever room you’re in and will lay patiently in his bed while you make dinner but wants nothing more than for some pets and belly rubs. He’s also been getting so excited for walks when he sees the leash and hasn’t had a *single* accident in our apartment. ⠀⠀ He appears house trained and doesn’t even mind having his nails trimmed. He is definitely familiar with what a couch is since he keeps trying to jump up on ours 😂. Cocoa is great on leash, super food motivated, and a fast learner. We’re working hard on helping him realize that we’ll come back when we leave for work in the morning, but he gets better every day and is settling into his crate sooner and sooner. ⠀⠀ You can adopt Cocoa, a 2 year old 12ish Lb poodle, from @koreank9rescue. Check out their profile for information on their adoption event this weekend in union square!
Coop:😐 “You’re tellin me the new guy gets treats just for peeing outside???” ⠀⠀ Coco:😛 “Oh boy oh boy a treat a treat!!!” ⠀⠀ Sorry Coop, life isn’t fair! Adoptable Coco’s 2nd night went great. He was much more relaxed in his crate last night and slept silently from 10pm until 6am and patiently waited for us to take him out to potty. This morning we started working on “sit” and responding to leash pressure on walks. Coco is very into food and so far is responding really well to what we’re asking from him on walks. He hasn’t had a single accident inside and he’s been embracing all the belly rubs we have to give. If you’re interested in adopting Coco, he’s available through @koreank9rescue!
