Traveling in times of COVID-19 🛫 Being spontaneous (read as terrible trip planner) finally paid off. I only had to cancel my trip to Rīga in March (which was really easy with @flysas ) and had no disappointment about cancelling my summer trips as nothing had been booked yet. As situation has been improving with COVID-19 traveling around Europe became less strict. Latvia has been doing really well and it didn’t take me long to book a flight to Rīga to finally see my family after a long break. Getting here I was shocked how @airbaltic handled the flight. Prior to checking in I have received an email stating rules on board and importance to comply with those. Neither did they measured travelers’ temperature as per email nor did they do anything about customers that were refusing to wear masks throughout the flight. I’m not even mentioning that the plane was late 1,5 hours with no explanation and people were placed next to each other as there was no requirement to keep the distance. It’s clear that customers take responsibility for their decision to travel but hey I had just a tiny bit more trust in this company. Focusing on positive sides - being back felt incredibly good. While life goes on and most of the times feels normal here I find it is still important to remember that everyone’s at risk even though it’s smaller. Being abroad and being on vacation certainly blurs the urgency of following COVID-19 precautions so from time to my I need my reality checks. We still went out a couple of times sitting outdoors and got a bit of shopping during off-rush hours but what have worked for us the most - long walks outdoors enjoying Latvian beautiful nature. With no need for long travel we got to explore beauty around us and rediscover our ways to connect with each other. It’s amazing how much situations like these help us to change perspective, reprioritise, slow down and find the balance in the moment. For myself it’s another lesson to appreciate what I have and not what it “should be”.
