As we get the Indigenous kitchen and team set up at Indigenous Food Lab here in Minneapolis, we are doing everything we can to support our community and the growing need for food security. We have been serving 100s of healthy Indigenous meals each day and utilizing the funds we get for the meals to support our Indigenous food producers along with our local farmers and growers. We hope to eventually open up more Indigenous food labs in cities everywhere, working to help preserve Indigenous knowledge and create a new generation of Indigenous chefs, restauranteurs, caterers, food truck operators, food producers, entrepreneurs, event producers and teachers. Today is a great to ask yourself, how can you help and support Indigenous Foods? Link in bio if you would like to support the non profit.
Attn: NATIFS has posted a position for an executive chef at the Indigenous Food Lab here in Minneapolis. Pls share! (Link in bio) #indigenousfoods
We have some great news! The Sioux Chef co-owners, Sean and Dana are excited to be able to contribute their perspective as part of the @beardfoundation JBF Fund Leadership Committee for their #openforgood initiative to provide financial resources for food or beverage businesses that are majority-owned Black or Indigenous! If you are a BIPOC food service operator, please consider applying for this fund! They are trying to reduce barriers to make it an easy enough application process to get you some much needed support. It’s official! Our @indigenousfoodlab has a new home at @midtownglobalmarket in Minneapolis! So excited to begin our journey with our non profit @natifs_org! Indigenous Food Lab will house a production/training kitchen, Indigenous Education Studio where we will produce a ton of video to share, and an Indigenous Market for our community to have a place to pick up Indigenous produced foods and gifts! Excited to be apart of the amazing and diverse community of entrepreneurs in Midtown Global Market!
We’re so excited to see this project happening and our future restaurant coming together! It’s been five years since we submitted our pitch for the @minneapolisparks and @mplsparksfoundation request for proposals for the waterworks project. We’ve been all over the map *literally* since then 🗺 ✈️ ... founded a non profit that is a fledgling about to take flight.... 🦅 Enter #2020 and the #covid19 plus #justiceforgeorgefloyd 💔 There could be no better time than now to bring nutrition, equity and inclusion to the sacred banks of the Mississippi River and sacred Dakota land. We are SO EXCITED to bring our team along with us, leading the world through these crises via the indigenous perspective of sustainability, peace and courage. These are core Dakota values. We cannot wait to share this space with you! #natifs #indigenousfoodlab #thesiouxchef #owamni @dana.noelle.thompson @the_sioux_chef @wiindigoo

This week we began cranking out 2000 free meals/week (400 meals/day) for at-risk communities here in Minneapolis. People were already struggling with the pandemic and the much needed social justice uprising exasperated the disparity. Hunger has increased with many grocery stores burned or closed, and food access has decreased due to economic and pandemic challenges. We asked around to assess needs and MN Central Kitchen had a system in place. Today we served our first meals. We received funding from Medtronic to do this for six weeks. Our beautiful friend Dana Nelson @mamaloca42 is the brainchild behind this partnership. She is owed a debt of gratitude. 🙏 Organizing this to succeed is dependent on a huge volunteer coordination. Chef Sean @the_sioux_chef just dropped off tons of free garden plants at @powwowgroundscoffee food shelf! South Minneapolis peeps, help find new homes for these babies and buy a coffee to support your local Indigenous Coffee Shop! You can also drop donations there. All plants courtesy of @seed_savers_exchange !
