My legs are dead! First long run of my #marathontraining program, through the soupy Houston morning, and by the second mile I gave up on maintaining a pace and focused on finishing. It didn’t help that I was doing kettlebell swings with a 35-pound kettlebell yesterday, either. Swipe left for my “before” picture in my new @brooksrunning Run Visible shorts, tank, and hat! #runhappyteam
An extra 10K for the @marinecorpsmarathon #runwiththemarines, because I’m extra like that (and I couldn’t upload my data). This run also served as a training run for #bigbeachmarathon - 2 miles easy, 2 tempo, 2 easy. Not my fastest, but I expect to pick up speed as the weather cools down. #runhappyteam
Let’s try this again! Since Houston went virtual, I had a backup plan: Big Beach in Alabama, which is two weeks after Houston would have taken place. 26.2, I have unfinished business with you, so I hit the reset button on my training. First run is complete: 3x1600 with 400m recovery intervals. Not my fastest (see: 90 degree weather), but I did it. Less than 16 weeks to go... #runhappyteam #speedwork

Today is #worldmentalhealthday and I can’t say enough how much fitness has done for me. I struggle with clinical depression and anxiety, and running in particular is where it all melts away. There are more of us out there than you think, pounding the pavement to quiet the noise in our heads. #endthestigmaofmentalhealth Also, 12 miles the day after a leg-torching RX is not a good decision. Just saying.
I’m not going to lie; seeing the Chevron Houston Marathon go virtual this morning was another gut punch in a year full of low blows. I’m trying really hard to look on the bright side: the marathon committee is working on a special virtual experience. I was able to bump down to a virtual half and sign up for a backup marathon. I got to test out my new Chaser shorts. And most importantly, running isn’t going virtual. So yes. I’m bummed. I understand why, but I’m also bummed. Is 2020 over yet?
I had a lot to think about this morning. So I ran a lot of miles. The cooler temps definitely helped.
What a perfect morning for a run! Today’s workout called for two miles easy, two miles tempo, and another two miles easy. I tacked on .2 miles to finish the virtual MCM 10K and got to test out my new Brooks Levitates. And made another major life decision around mile 4... #runwiththemarines #runhappyteam
I can’t even begin to say what an honor and privilege it is to be on the Brooks Run Happy Team! Thank you so much for all my new fall training gear. I’m all set for the Marine Corps Marathon Virtual 10K AND all my Chevron Houston Marathon training! #runhappyteam #runhappy @brooksrunning #runwiththemarines @marinecorpsmarathon #runhoutogether #houambassador #runhou @chevronhoustonmarathon
It’s #medalmonday, and I’ve got one from an in-person race! Read the recap on my blog (link in profile). And yes, I did win first overall female thanks to grit, determination, and @brooksrunning Hyperion Tempo shoes. Even if they’re just a placebo. #mondaymotivation
I cannot imagine a more perfect morning! I ran a real, live 5K, and for a great cause. The proceeds went to the Nick Gary Foundation, which provides scholarships to local high school seniors. And I PR’d my 5K time, coming in first overall female! For a couple hours this morning, life felt normal and beautiful. #5krun #personalbest #roadrace
I may be smiling, but I’m tired. I’m tired of all the ugliness in the world. I’m tired of hearing rumors that races are going to go virtual. I’m tired of how we’ve lost our ability to give people the benefit of the doubt. But mostly, I’m tired of seeing so many people hurting and being powerless to help them. Let’s face it; no one on this planet will ever describe me as a bleeding heart. I’ve worked my 🍑 off to get where I am in life, building on the foundation that my immigrant parents laid for me. And I believe everyone should have that opportunity, whether it’s to build a business or just go for a run. But I don’t have the answers. All I can do is listen. And pray. “Let love be genuine; hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good.” -Romans 13:9
